The World Series victory by the Milwaukee Brewers was a dominant run, and as a result, this championship win reminds the MLB community how dominant the Astros were in 2022 as well.
The Milwaukee Brewers have become the latest World Series winner as they defeated the Tampa Bay Rays in five games to become the champion of the 2026 season, and with the dominant run, they join a very prestigious group of dominant postseason runs, including the Houston Astros on their run in 2022.
Following the Brewers' championship victory, MLB Network posted on X the MLB teams to finish with a postseason record of 11-2 or better in the postseason, and on that list are the 2026 Brewers, the 2022 Astros, the 2005 Chicago White Sox, and the 1998 and 1999 New York Yankees.
With that said, with the Brewers having such a dominant run this year, the MLB community has now been reminded that the Astros were just as dominant back in 2022. The interesting part about the runs for Houston and Milwaukee is the fact that each team went 11-2 and swept at least one round on their path to the World Series.
Starting with the Brewers, they defeated the San Diego Padres 3-1 in the NL Division Series, then swept the Los Angeles Dodgers in the NL Championship Series, and in the World Series, they dominated the Rays 4-1.
Now, looking at the Astros 2022 run, they swept the Seattle Mariners in the AL Division Series 3-0, after that, Houston swept the New York Yankees 4-0, and in the World Series, the Astros came out on top 4-2 over the Philadelphia Phillies.
All that to say, the Astros and the Brewers each had a very dominant run and were able to do it in their own way.
One interesting nugget to consider when it comes to the Astros' run versus the Brewers' run is the fact that Milwaukee's 2026 World Series victory was actually their first in franchise history, while Houston's 2022 World Series win was their second World Series win.
The 2022 World Series was actually the Astros' fourth appearance on the championship stage since 2017, when they won their first championship in franchise history as they defeated the Dodgers 4-3 in a classic seven-game battle.
While it is great to think about great postseason runs, especially for the Astros, the focus now has to shift to building this team up for the 2027 season as well as making key decisions about who will be the next GM and the next manager in hopes that Houston can once again reach the World Series, as they have failed to get past the AL Wild Card round since 2022.
So, as the Astros and the Brewers head into the offseason and begin preparations for 2027, it will be interesting to see how each team approaches the offseason, whether Milwaukee can continue their success, and whether Houston can take a step forward. Regardless, this will be an important offseason for both clubs.
