The Houston Astros were quite inconsistent during the 2026 season, but one player who really shone was designated hitter Yordan Alvarez. Speaking of Alvarez, he was on a chase for the Triple Crown, but unfortunately he did fall short of winning that honor. Even so, Alvarez's 2026 campaign was very impressive, and at times he was the best hitter in all of baseball.

With that said, there is one key question that arises. Can Yordan Alvarez repeat his 2026 success in 2027 and potentially win the Triple Crown next season?

In order to answer this question, let's first take a look at his stats for the entirety of 2026 to see how truly incredible he was. However, before getting into the stats, it is important to note that in order for a player to win the Triple Crown, they must lead either the American League or the National League in batting average, RBIs, and home runs.

Starting with batting average, Alvarez actually clinched the batting average title with a batting average of .316. Now, in the AL, the next closest batter to Alvarez was Chandler Simpson of the Tampa Bay Rays, so that is just something to keep in mind.

Next, looking at RBIs, Alvarez ranked second in the AL as Pete Alonso of the Baltimore Orioles recorded 113 on the season in a very impressive 2026 campaign. At one point, Alvarez was in control of the RBI category, but Alonso got really hot in September, and Alvarez was unable to finish strong, as Alvarez recorded 12 RBIs while Alonso recorded 22 RBIs.

Lastly, for home runs, Alvarez has 42 home runs for the season, but narrowly lost this category to Alonso, who finished with 43 home runs. Similar to the RBI category, Alvarez could finish strong enough, as he had five home runs in the final month, while Alonso had 11.

So, when analyzing the 2026 performance for Alvarez it does appear that his final month of the regular season was not indicative of his performance for the entire year, but that does not take away the fact that he had a great showing in 2026.

Now, getting back to answering the question, I do believe that Alvarez has the talent and the ability to win the Triple Crown, but he has to finish the season stronger and part of that will have to do with the Astros having a deeper overall lineup.

What I mean is the fact that aside from Alvarez, the Houston lineup was very up and down, so opposing pitchers could really focus in on Alvarez and if they did not let him make a major impact in the game, it became quite difficult for the Astros to put runs on the board, and that became quite clear in the postseason.

So, if the Astros can play more consistently or simply just add more talent during this offseason, I do believe that will really benefit Alvarez and could quite possibly allow him to get in a similar position to where he was in 2026, and if that is the case, I do believe that Alvarez will finish the job.
