A's Claim LHP From White Sox

The A's have claimed left-hander Joe Rock off waivers from the Chicago White Sox and assigned him to Triple-A Las Vegas.

Rock, 26, has posted a 6.89 ERA across 32 ⅔ innings this season in Triple-A with the Sox and Tampa Bay Rays. He has struck out 48, walked 31, and hit six batters in that span and also holds a 2.11 WHIP.

On the bright side, his extension ranks in the 90th percentile, which will add to his perceived velocity, while he clocks in at 93.4 mph on average.

In the big leagues he's had some success, holding a 3.00 ERA in 18 innings split between 2025 and 2026.

His overall stuff+ grade is roughly league average (98), with his slider doing the heavy lifting with a 106. Rock's location+ grade is an awful 55. He has two options remaining, so the A's will have a little time to see what they have with him before needing to make a decision.
