Contract Details Revealed For New Toronto Blue Jays Bullpen Arm cover image

Tyler Rogers just signed a three-year deal with the Jays.

Brady Farkas on the breakdown of the Tyler Rogers deal.

The Toronto Blue Jays signed right-handed reliever Tyler Rogers to a three-year, $37 million deal last week, continuing their run of aggression this offseason.

Rogers figures to pair with Jeff Hoffman and Louis Varland to make a solid back-end of the bullpen for manager John Schneider, and, of course, the Jays can go out and make additional moves this offseason. They've still been connected to former Rays closer Pete Fairbanks in free agency.

About Rogers

He will turn 35 on Wednesday and is a seven-year veteran of the San Francisco Giants and New York Mets. Remarkably durable, he's made at least 68 appearances or more in each of the last five seasons and he's led his league in appearances in three of those years. And that doesn't include the COVID 2020 season when he led the National League with 29, appearing in nearly half of the games.

He went 4-6 this past season with a 1.98 ERA. He pitched in 81 games.

What that really means

Rogers is guaranteed $31 in salary plus the $5 million signing bonus, plus the guaranteed $1 million buyout after the 2028 season. If the Blue Jays want to keep him for 2029 at the additional $9 million, they can, but if he hits health checkmarks and games pitched bonuses, the contract will automatically vest - at the bigger number of $12 million.

How the bullpen shapes up right now

The Blue Jays have an overload of arms at the moment, so they have options - and question marks - to address.

Hoffman, Varland and Rogers have guaranteed roster spots, while Yimi Garcia figures to as well. Jose Berrios and Eric Lauer make up spots six and seven and lefty Mason Fluharty would seem to have the inside track at spot No. 7.

Beyond that? Braydon Fisher, who went 7-0 in 2025, is an option, as are Angel Bastardo, Spencer Miles, Yariel Rodriguez, Chase Lee, Brandon Little, Tommy Nance and Ricky Tiedemann.

There is a chance that the Blue Jays could trade one of Berrios or Lauer to clear up the log jam. Rodriguez could also be dealt after being recently outrighted.
