Kevin Gausman and Shane Bieber could go both be on the move by Monday's Aug. 3 trade deadline.
The Toronto Blue Jays enter play on Wednesday at 49-59 and 5.5 games back of the third and final wild card spot in the American League.
While they still hypothetically have a chance to make some noise in the wild card race over the last five games before Mondays' trade deadline, the Jays look like clear sellers, and they should be, at least with players who have contracts that run out at the end of this season.
That includes Kevin Gausman, George Springer, Daulton Varsho and Shane Bieber.
Given that Gausman and Bieber are both starting pitchers, let's assume that group of interested teams is largely the same, so who could the Jays potentially strike a deal with?
Here's what you need to know.
Gausman, 35, is just 4-10 this year with a 4.51 ERA. A durable innings eater who can miss bats, he's struck out 123 batters in 121.2 innings. He also has playoff experience, having pitched excellently for Toronto in 2022, 2023 and 2025. He's being paid the pro-rated version of $22 million, meaning he has approximately $7 million remaining to him.
Toronto Blue Jays pitcher Kevin Gausman (34) in the dug out during the second inning against the Chicago White Sox at Rogers Centre. John E. Sokolowski-Imagn ImagesHe has a limited no-trade list that includes eight teams, meaning that he has some control over where he goes.
Bieber, after a dreadful start against the Nationals on Tuesday, is now 2-2 with a 5.74 ERA. He's being paid the pro-rated version of $16 million, meaning he has about $5 million left.
In either deal, Toronto could try to get the acquiring team to pay the full balance of the remaining contract, or Toronto could pay a portion of it in an effort to get a better haul in return.
So, who could be interested?
Philadelphia Phillies
The Phillies are 57-51 and in second place in the NL East, and with the always aggressive Dave Dombrowski running things, they could look for an arm to pair with Christopher Sanchez, Zack Wheeler and Jesus Luzardo.
Atlanta Braves
A World Series contender who is light on the rotation front, they need someone to slot in with Chris Sale, especially since Spencer Strider may not pitch again this season.
Chicago White Sox
Trying to win the American League Central for the first time since 2021, the White Sox have a young and talented rotation, but also one that has never been through this kind of pressure - or dealt with the innings totals that could accompany a playoff run. Gausman has them on his no-trade list.
Boston Red Sox
The Red Sox are relying on young arms like Payton Tolle and Jake Bennett right now, meaning they could tire eventually as well. Gausman or Bieber could help stabilize things with Ranger Suarez and Sonny Gray. It's also far from certain that Garrett Crochet makes it back this year.
Los Angeles Dodgers
They are interested in Tarik Skubal, so they can never be counted out. Tyler Glasnow and Blake Snell are set to come back, but as the last few years have taught us, there's never a guarantee.
New York Yankees
Gerrit Cole, Cam Schlittler and Max Fried make up a fantastic 1-2-3, but with Carlos Rodon's health questionable, they could use another arm as well, especially if they want to secure the American League East.
Tampa Bay Rays
If they don't get Skubal, would either of these arms be more in their price range? They are currently in the driver's seat for the top seed in the AL, don't they want to go all the way?
