The Jays are working toward their final roster for Opening Day, and in doing so, have assigned a strong of players to the Buffalo Bisons.

The Toronto Blue Jays haven't finalized their roster yet for Opening Day, but they are getting closer to doing so, with the final battles apparently coming down to the last bench spot and the last bullpen spot.

How did we get to that point? By virtue of the Jays sending the following players down to minor league camp on Monday.

Per Mitch Bannon of The Athletic on social media:

The #BlueJays have assigned the following players to minor league camp: RHP Jorge Alcala, LHP Josh Fleming, RHP Jesse Hahn, LHP Joe Mantiply, RHP Yariel Rodríguez, OF Eloy Jiménez Expect most (if not all) to be key Bisons to start the year

About Alcala

Now 30 years old, Alcala is a seven-year veteran of the Minnesota Twins, Boston Red Sox and St. Louis Cardinals. A hard-thrower who approaches 100 mph, he's gone 9-13 in his career with a 4.29 ERA.

Alcala had a productive 2024, going 4-3 with a 3.24 ERA in 54 games, but he struggled through three organizations in 2025. He went 0-2 with a 6.22 ERA in total and the Cardinals non-tendered him at the end of the season.

He struck out 61 batters in 55.0 innings last season, but he walked 30, which is something that has plagued him.

He had an 8.59 ERA in 7.1 innings this spring.

About Fleming

The 29-year-old was a fifth-round pick of the Tampa Bay Rays in the 2017 MLB Draft out of Webster University. He made a career-high 26 appearances for the Rays in 2021, going 10-8 in 104.1 innings. A soft-tosser, he has only 161 strikeouts in 254.2 big-league innings. He's spent time with the Pittsburgh Pirates and spent 2025 in the Seattle Mariners system, going 5-5 with a 4.91 ERA at Triple-A. He struck out just 44 batters in 84.1 innings.

He had a 4.50 ERA in eight innings in Grapefruit League play.

About Hahn

Now 36 years old, Hahn was a sixth round pick of the Rays in 2010 out of Virginia Tech. He's spent parts of eight years in the big leagues with the San Diego Padres, Oakland Athletics, Kansas City Royals and Mariners, going 19-22 overall with a 4.24 ERA.

He's had a road filled with perseverance, as he was not in the big leagues in 2018 and didn't appear in a big league game from 2022-24 either.

About Mantiply

An eight-year veteran of the Detroit Tigers, New York Yankees and Arizona Diamondbacks, he's appeared in 256 career games. He's pitched in 250 games for the Diamondbacks, helping them reach the World Series in 2023 and earning an All-Star appearance in 2022. He's 11-13 for his career with a 4.54 ERA. He has three career saves.

After moving on from the D'backs in 2025, he made 14 appearance for Triple-A Buffalo in the Jays system, going 2-1 with a 3.45 ERA.

About Jimenez

Still just 29 years old, Jimenez is a six-year veteran of Chicago White Sox and Baltimore Orioles. Ranked as the No. 4 prospect in baseball by MLB Pipeline in 2018, Jimenez made his debut with Chicago in 2019.

An integral player for the White Sox as they came out of their prior rebuild, he helped Chicago make the playoffs in the COVID 2020 season and again in 2021. He burst on to the scene in the 2019 campaign, hitting 31 home runs in 122 games. He also hit 14 homers in the COVID-shortened 2020 campaign (60 games), but then the injuries set in.

He played just 55 games in 2021 and 84 games in 2022. He rebounded in 2023, hitting 18 home runs and driving in 64, but he struggled in 2024, hitting just .238 with Chicago before getting traded to Baltimore and hitting .232 in 33 games.
