The Jays will be on the field in Dunedin, Fla. soon enough.

After falling painfully short of winning the World Series in 2025, the Toronto Blue Jays are onto 2026. And after winning the American League pennant, and signing Dylan Cease, Tyler Rogers, Cody Ponce and Kazuma Okamoto this offseason, the expectations are high for the 2026 version of John Schneider's team.

Well, we got one step closer to the new season on Wednesday, as the Jays announced when spring training camp will officially open in Dunedin, Fla.

The first pitchers and catchers workout will be February 11 while the first full squad workout is Feb. 16. It should be noted that position players who are playing in the World Baseball Classic will report a few days before other position players.

Thus far, that applies to Vladimir Guerrero Jr. (Dominican Republic) and Ernie Clement (Team USA). Kazuma Okamoto (Japan) is expected to play and Alejandro Kirk (Mexico) is playing as well, but he will be there for pitchers and catchers.

Clement was just named to Team USA's roster earlier this week.

What else to do before spring training?

Well, before the Jays get to spring training, they have some finishing touches to put on their roster building. Right now, the big question is if Kyle Tucker will be joining the Jays when they get to Dunedin. The superstar outfielder reportedly has a long-term contract offer from Toronto, as well as a shorter offer from the New York Mets.

Some close to him expect a resolution to come on Thursday. If Tucker signs in Toronto, the Jays will have the best lineup in the American League once again.

If Tucker chooses New York, or anywhere else, the Jays will have some questions in their lineup - especially if they are unable to retain Bo Bichette as well.

The longtime shortstop has already met with the Philadelphia Phillies this week and the Phillies are reportedly very interested in him as they chase another National League East crown.

Around the league

With less than a month to go until spring training, the offseason has opened up again. The Chicago Cubs recently signed Alex Bregman to a five-year deal while the Boston Red Sox agreed to a five-year deal with left-hander Ranger Suarez.

The Cardinals also dealt Nolan Arenado to the Arizona Diamondbacks as they continue their offseason rebuild. They could now switch gears to Brendan Donovan, who is also expected to be dealt this offseason.
