Sean Keys wasted no time recording his first big league hit in his debut for the Blue Jays

The Toronto Blue Jays made a series of roster moves ahead of a game against the Texas Rangers on Saturday.

Among the moves the Blue Jays made was to select the contract of INF prospect Sean Keys. In a series of corresponding moves, Toronto recalled outfielder Yohendrick Pinango from the Triple-A Buffalo Bisons, placed outfielder Jesus Sanchez on the 10-day injured list due to a right ankle sprain and optioned Davis Schneider back to Triple-A.

Keys made his major league debut for Saturday's game against the Rangers and played first base while usual starter Vladimir Guerrero Jr. was slotted at designated hitter.

Keys finished the game 1-for-4 and scored a run. His lone hit was a single in the bottom of the sixth inning, with his family watching in the stands at Rogers Centre in Toronto.

Keys' hit and subsequent run didn't result in a win for the Blue Jays, who fell 7-4 and lost the four-game series in the process.

Toronto's loss dropped it to 39-44 on the season, tied for third place in the American League East with the Baltimore Orioles. The Blue Jays' three-losses moved them two games out of the final wild card spot in the American League.

Keys was selected in the fourth round of the 2024 MLB Draft out of Bucknell. The 23-year-old was one of the most-improved players in the team's farm system from last year to this season.

In 2025, with the High-A Vancouver Canadians, Keys slashed .217/.365/.408 with a .773 OPS in 119 games and hit 22 doubles, a triple and 19 home runs with 72 RBIs.

This year, in 67 games with the Double-A New Hampshire Fisher Cats and Bisons, Keys had a slash line of .284/.409/.619 with a 1.028 OPS and connected for 14 doubles, a triple and 21 homers with 54 RBIs. He had an OPS of over 1.000 in 18 games in Triple-A.

Barring struggles, Keys will likely be up with Toronto for an extended period of time.

The Blue Jays plan on using the former Bison in-and-out in the designated hitter role and in the field. When it comes to the position he'll play, Toronto plans on having him on the corners at first and third base, same positions he's played since college.

Keys and the Blue Jays will look to salvage the series against Texas in the fourth contest of the series at 1:37 p.m. ET on Sunday at the Rogers Centre.
