Toronto Blue Jays' All-Star Dylan Cease continued his great run on the mound on Wednesday afternoon, carrying a no-hitter into the ninth inning on Wednesday afternoon against the San Francisco Giants.

In total, Cease went eight innings, surrendering just one hit and no runs. He walked three but struck out 11.

For the season, he's 6-4 with a 2.56 ERA. He leads the American League in strikeouts with a whopping 148 in 98.1 innings. He was named to his first All-Star team last week and is making all kinds of history, according to various outlets.

First, according to @OptaSTATS, Cease now has nine straight starts of seven strikeouts or more and four or fewer hits allowed. That's the longest streak by any pitcher in the Modern Era.

Furthermore, as noted by StatsCentre, Cease's 148 strikeouts are the sixth-most all-time for a pitcher in his first 17 outings with a new team. Only Randy Johnson (Arizona, 171), Chris Sale (Boston, 166), Kerry Wood (156, Cubs), Gerrit Cole (Astros, 151) and Hideo Nomo (Dodgers, 150) have more.

Making Cease's numbers more impressive is the fact that he missed some time while on the 15-day injured list, and he still leads the American League in K's.

He's in consideration to start the All-Star Game for the American League on Tuesday night, especially with Jays manager John Schneider as the skipper for the AL squad.

We should get some inkling as to that decision on Monday before the game.

A now eight-year veteran of the Chicago White Sox, San Diego Padres and Blue Jays, Cease is on track for his seventh consecutive season of 30 starts or more and his seventh straight season of 200 strikeouts or more.

Though a disappointing 44-49, the Blue Jays are still just 2.5 games back of the third and final wild card spot in the American League. 

They are back in action on Friday night when they start the final series of the first half of the season against the San Diego Padres at Petco Park.

The MLB Draft begins on Saturday in Philadelphia as a precursor to the MLB All-Star festivities. The Blue Jays will not pick until No. 39 in the draft as a result of going over the second surcharge of the luxury balance tax. They also won't have a true second round pick because of signing Cease, who was given a qualifying offer by the Padres.
