The Toronto Blue Jays achieved one of their biggest offseason goals on Friday night by signing right-handed reliever Tyler Rogers to a three-year deal.
Rogers led baseball in appearances with 81 in 2025 and gives manager John Schneider another leverage option at the back-end of his bullpen. Toronto had previously struck out on Edwin Diaz, who signed with the Los Angeles Dodgers, and Robert Suarez, who signed with the Atlanta Braves.
The Jays had been exploring the idea of moving Jeff Hoffman from the ninth inning to earlier in the game if they found another high-end option, but it doesn't appear like Rogers will supplant Hoffman from his role. Hoffman, Louis Varland and Rogers will form a late-game trio, but Hoffman still appears to have the ninth inning. He went 9-7 with a 4.37 ERA in 2025, also registering 33 saves.
Of course, the free-spending Jays could still have another move up their sleeve, and they've been connected to Pete Fairbanks, formerly of the Tampa Bay Rays.
Before the Blue Jays can worry about adding another reliever, they need to figure out the offensive side of their offseason. As of now, Bo Bichette is a free agent and his absence leaves a gaping hole in the Toronto lineup. Are they going to re-sign him? Or are they going to look to bring in Kyle Tucker? Or could they trade for Ketel Marte? All of those are options as of this moment.
--After losing out on Pete Alonso earlier this week, the New York Mets struck on the free agent market, signing Jorge Polanco to a two-year deal worth $40 million. Polanco had the game-winning hits for Seattle in games 1 and 2 of the American League Championship Series against Toronto, so his absence weakens Seattle, which is good for Toronto.
--The Yankees have re-signed infielder Amed Rosario to a one-year deal. They remain interested in a reunion with Cody Bellinger and can't be counted for Bichette.
--The Red Sox missed out on Alonso and didn't land Polanco, either, so they could ratchet up their interest in Bichette also. They also want to bring back Alex Bregman, who opted-out of his Red Sox deal at the start of the offseason.
--The Detroit Tigers are signing Kenley Jansen to a one-year deal. They also just brought back Kyle Finnegan on a two-year deal as they work to strengthen their bullpen.
