The Japanese slugger signed a four-year deal this past offseason.

The Toronto Blue Jays beat the Athletics 5-2 on Sunday afternoon to complete the three-game sweep in the season-opening series at Rogers Centre.

Toronto is now 3-0 on the campaign while the A's are 0-3. The Jays pitching was historically dominant in the series, recording 50 strikeouts over the three games, but the team's power was also on full display.

Jesus Sanchez, George Springer and Kazuma Okamoto all hit their first home runs of the season in the victory. Okamoto signed a four-year deal in the offseason worth $60 million and figures to be a key part of the lineup.

Through three games, he's been just that, as noted by @StatsCentre. He's one of just five players all-time to get on base six times in their first three games to start a season after just joining the franchise. The last person to do it? Dave Hollins in 1999, 27 years ago.

One of the stars of the NPB for years, Okamoto had six seasons of 30 homers or more in Japan. He's hitting .333 through three games here. Okamoto also represented Team Japan at the World Baseball Classic this March, helping Japan to a semifinal appearance. He helped Japan win the event in 2023.

The Blue Jays and Colorado Rockies will open up a new three-game series on Monday night at 7:07 p.m. ET. Colorado, who was the worst team in baseball in 2025, is 0-3 so far this season. Right-hander Tomoyuki Sugano will start for the Rockies. He played last season with the Baltimore Orioles, so the Jays are certainly familiar. Cody Ponce gets the ball for the Blue Jays, and it will be his first appearance with the team as well.

He pitched in Korea in 2025, winning the league's MVP Award after going 17-1 on the mound.

--It will be interesting to see how the Jays utilize Sanchez moving forward. He has more power than Nathan Lukes but has been prone to strikeout issues in the past. Will the team continue to utilize Lukes as the primary left fielder or will Sanchez's upside eventually move him past Lukes?

--Closer Jeff Hoffman rebounded after a blown save on Opening Night to earn his first save of the season. He struck out two.

--The A's will continue their tough road trip to start the season, as they'll take on the 2-1 Atlanta Braves at Truist Park.
