The Jays dropped a tough extra-innings contest against the Rockies on Wednesday afternoon.

The Toronto Blue Jays dropped a tough 2-1 extra-inning affair on Wednesday afternoon against the Colorado Rockies at Rogers Centre.

Shockingly, the Blue Jays dropped two of three to the previously-winless Rockies. They are still 4-2 on the young campaign while Colorado improved to 2-4.

Despite the loss, starting pitcher Kevin Gausman was brilliant once again. The 35-year-old took a no-decision after going six innings and surrendering no runs on two hits. He walked none and struck out 10.

As noted by Sportsnet Stats, Gausman now has the most strikeouts in a Blue Jays pitcher's first two games of the season. He now has 21 K's after getting 11 on Opening Day.

A 14-year-veteran of the Baltimore Orioles, Atlanta Braves, Cincinnati Reds, San Francisco Giants and Blue Jays, Gausman was denied a chance to even his career record. Still 112-113, Gausman has a lifetime 3.80 ERA.

He was in line for the win until the Rockies tied the game at 1-1 in the top of the eighth. Colorado then scored in the top of the 10th and the Blue Jays were unable to match the score.

One of the most durable pitchers in the sport, Gausman has made 31 starts or more in each of his four previous seasons with the Jays. He is in the final year of his contract and it's unclear what exactly he'll do moving forward. Regardless of what the future looks like, he's a huge part of this Blue Jays team, especially in the wake of injuries to Trey Yesavage, Jose Berrios, Bowden Francis, Shane Bieber and Cody Ponce.

On the offensive side of things

--Toronto had only seven hits in the loss, with Ernie Clement and Myles Straw each recording two.

--Kazuma Okamoto, Alejandro Kirk and Davis Schneider had the other three.

--Tommy Nance gave up a run in the eighth inning which allowed the Rockies to tie the game while Brendon Little surrendered the eventual game-winning run in the 10th.

Other news and notes

The Blue Jays have already had Thursday's game against the Chicago White Sox postponed because of inclement weather. Scheduled to be the home opener for the White Sox, it has been rescheduled for Friday afternoon.

That will be the second start of the season for Dylan Cease, who is a former All-Star for the White Sox. It will also allow the Jays to reunite with Seranthony Dominguez, who signed with the White Sox in the offseson.
