Core Jackson plays in the Yankees system, but hails from Ontario.
Speaking on Wednesday's edition of the "Foul Territory" show, New York Yankees prospect Core Jackson was asked about the importance of the 2025 Toronto Blue Jays run to the World Series.
Speaking with former MLB catcher Erik Kratz, Jackson said that Canada is unique in that it has an entire country essentially pulling for one team. He also said that the Blue Jays can be an inspiration to Canadian kids who want to see baseball as a viable sport for them to play.
Jackson, 23, hails from Sarnia, Ontario. He was drafted in the fifth round of the 2025 MLB Draft out of Utah. In just his second professional season, he's already reached Double-A.
He played 78 games this season at High-A, hitting .259 with 12 homers, 47 RBIs and 32 stolen bases. In 2023 games at Double-A, he hit .269 with two homers, 15 RBIs and nine stolen bases. He's ranked as the No. 11 prospect in the system by MLB Pipeline. A left-handed hitter, he's projected to make his major league debut in 2028. However, he does not come without question marks.
Nothing that Jackson said was particularly surprising, but it's always refreshing to hear from someone who has lived it. The Blue Jays are a rallying point for Canadian baseball and their success can absolutely help drive nationwide interest in the sport.
While Canadian fans won't want to be reminded of it, take the 2026 United States Olympic men's hockey team that won the gold medal. That team is likely to spurn an interest in American hockey, and while it won't manifest itself for a period of years, it does set up the US well in the future.
The same can be true of Canadian baseball, and the Blue Jays are a huge part of that, as is the Canadian World Baseball Classic team, which got out of the group stage round for the first time in 2026.
Up next for the Blue Jays
Like everybody else, the Blue Jays are waiting for the MLB season to officially end. Once the World Series ends, the business of baseball for 2027 can start. The Blue Jays have several free agents that will exit the 40-man roster when the World Series is over, and free agency will begin in full five days after the series concludes.
That's when the Blue Jays can start to find answers to their questions heading into next year.
