Ty France spent the end of the 2025 campaign with the Blue Jays.

Now-former Toronto Blue Jays first baseman Ty France found a new home on Monday, signing a minor league deal with the San Diego Padres.

That was revealed by Padres' reporter Dennis Lin on social media.

For France, the signing represents a homecoming. He's from San Diego, played his college baseball at San Diego State and was drafted by the Padres in 2015. He made his debut with San Diego in 2019 but was traded to the Seattle Mariners in 2020.

France is certainly best known for his five-year stretch with the M's from 2020-2024. He was an All-Star in 2022 and helped Seattle break its lengthy playoff drought that same season. Ironically, the Mariners beat the Blue Jays in the wild card playoff round that season.

He began his 2025 season with the Minnesota Twins but got traded to the Blue Jays at the trade deadline, appearing in 37 games after the deal. He hit .277 with a homer and eight RBIs, but he battled injury and was not even on the roster for the American League Division or Championship Series.

He came back for the World Series, going 1-for-4 with an RBI. France actually won a Gold Glove in 2025 for his work between the Twins and Jays.

After the Blue Jays signed Kazuma Okamoto this offseason, there was really no need to bring France back. Okamoto can fill in at first base when he's not playing third. Of course, with Vladimir Guerrero in the picture, there isn't much opportunity for any backup first baseman to see regular playing time.

Other Jays news and notes

--With Shane Bieber injured and questions about the workloads of Trey Yesavage and Cody Ponce, we're wondering if a reunion makes sense between the Blue Jays and future Hall of Famer Max Scherzer.

--We're also wondering if the injury to Bieber could result in Yariel Rodriguez ending up back in the bullpen. Remember, he was outrighted off the 40-man roster earlier this offseason.

--Monday is the first full-squad workout for the Blue Jays in Dunedin, Fla., so we are officially back after a long offseason.

--The Team Canada men's hockey team is the No. 1 seed at the Olympic hockey tournament. Last week, manager John Schneider said he was pulling for Canada to win the Gold Medal, something it also did in 2014 and 2010 when NHL players were present.
