Outfielder RJ Schreck showed out in the international tournament

For multiple days in a row, the Toronto Blue Jays have had a decent number of representatives in the 2026 World Baseball Classic.

Among those players was the ninth-best prospect in the Blue Jays organization (per MLB Pipeline), RJ Schreck.

The outfielder, who's competing for Israel in the WBC, provided one of the few bits of offense for his team in an 11-3 loss against Venezuela at loanDepot Park in Miami.

Schreck went 1-for-4 with a run and an RBI. His lone hit was solo home run in the top of the sixth that cut Israel's deficit to 5-2.

Schreck was originally picked in the ninth round of the 2023 MLB Draft out of Vanderbilt by the Seattle Mariners.

Schreck spent a year with the Mariners before he was dealt to Toronto in return for first baseman Justin Turner and cash July 29, 2024.

The 25-year-old had already advanced to the Double-A level by the time he was dealt and seems to be knocking on the door of the major leagues.

The former Vanderbilt product dealt with a hand injury last season that kept him out of action for a month from mid-June to mid-July.

Schreck still earned a promotion to the Triple-A Buffalo Bisons despite his month-long layoff. He slashed .249/.395/.459 with an .854 OPS and hit 14 doubles, two triples and 18 home runs with 53 RBIs across 105 games in rookie ball, Single-A, Double-A and Triple-A.

The Blue Jays have extended a non-roster spring training invite to Schreck two years in a row.

Before departing for the WBC, Schreck slashed .250/.250/.333 with a .583 OPS and hit a double in seven Grapefruit League games.

Toronto's outfield is multiple players deep, which could affect Schreck's chances at making an impact on the major league roster this season.

The Blue Jays' outfield is currently projected to be Jesus Sanchez in left field, Daulton Varsho in center field and Addison Barger in right field, according to FanGraphs. Projected designated hitter and multi-time All-Star George Springer also plays the outfield.

FanGraphs also projects three outfielders to make Toronto's major league bench: Myles Straw, Nathan Lukes and Davis Schneider. Jonatan Clase is another outfielder in the organization with major league experience but he's projected to begin the year in  Triple-A.

There's a lot of outfield depth within the organization that can block off Schreck from making his major league debut. But a solid spring after he returns from the WBC can go a long way in him rising up the depth chart.
