Shortstop JoJo Parker is getting more and more comfortable in his first minor league season

The Toronto Blue Jays are still working to get back to their status as title contenders after a series loss against the New York Yankees. Following the series loss, the Blue Jays are 34-38, in third place in the American League East and 10 games out of first place in the division.

Toronto is also 1.5 games behind the Athletics for the final AL wild card spot.

One of the few positives this season has been the Blue Jays' farm system, which has already yielded positive results for the major league squad.

Rookie catcher Brandon Valenzuela has been one of Toronto's best players this season. He's slashed .254/.338/.454 with a .792 OPS in 47 games and has hit five doubles and seven home runs with 18 RBIs.

While Valenzuela is starting to make his mark on the major league roster, one of the Blue Jays' most highly-touted prospects is growing more comfortable in the minor leagues.

Shortstop JoJo Parker had a career-best four hits in the Single-A Dunedin Blue Jays' 15-5 win against the Fort Myers Mighty Mussels on Saturday.

Parker finished the game 4-for-6 with a triple and two RBIs. He scored two runs in the game.

Parker was selected with the eighth overall pick in the 2025 MLB Draft out of high school.

The 19-year-old shortstop was instantly regarded as one of the better prospects in baseball. He's ranked No. 29 on MLB Pipeline's top 100.

Parker has gone through ups-and-downs in his first minor league season, but is starting to pick things up. In May, Parker slashed .241/.362/.356. This month, he has a slash line of .294/.405/.441.

For the season, the teenage shortstop has slashed .242/.379/.381 with a .760 OPS in 53 games and has hit 13 doubles, a triple and four home runs with 29 RBIs. He's stolen 17 bases in 20 attempts.

Parker is one of two top 100 prospects for Toronto on MLB Pipeline's top 100. The other prospect is fellow shortstop Arjun Nimmala, who's ranked as the No. 53 prospect in baseball.

It will likely be several years before Parker or Nimmala make their way to the major league roster.

Parker's ETA to the major leagues is 2029 and Nimmala's is 2028, respectively, per MLB Pipeline.

Currently, the Blue Jays' shortstop position is occupied by Andres Gimenez, who's under team control through the 2029 season, which would place Parker and Nimmala's debut right around Gimenez's final season, per MLB Pipeline's predictions.
