According to Jon Morosi of MLB Network, the Jays are still interested in both Robert Suarez and Edwin Diaz, but the New York Mets loom.

Speaking from the baseball winter meetings in Orlando, Fla., Jon Morosi of MLB Network continued to link the Toronto Blue Jays to the top-end of the reliever market, specifically Robert Suarez and Edwin Diaz.

However, he indicated that Toronto has competition from those two from the New York Mets. He also said the Los Angeles Dodgers are lurking.

After New York signed closer Devin Williams to a three-year deal earlier this offseason, the hope was that they'd fall out of the rest of the relief market, but that isn't the case.

    How this works for Toronto

The Blue Jays have already addressed the possibility of Jeff Hoffman moving to a different inning in the bullpen hierarchy, and it seems likely that he would drop to the eighth inning if the team can secure either of these All-Stars.

That said, leadership will still have to have a conversation with Hoffman, who was an integral part of the team's run to Game 7 of the World Series.

    About Suarez

Heading for his age 35 season, Suarez is just a four-year veteran of the San Diego Padres. He's gone 22-13 lifetime with a solid 2.91 ERA, and he led the National League with 40 saves in 2025. He had 36 in 2024 and is a two-time All-Star.

Because of his age, it's unlikely that he secures a deal longer than three years, which could make things more palatable for a Jays team that has already spent big on Dylan Cease and Cody Ponce.

He was ranked as the No. 21 free agent in this class by MLBTradeRumors and was predicted to get three years and $48 million.

    About Diaz

On the other side of the coin is Diaz, who was predicted for a four-year, $82 million pact. One of the top closers in the game, the 31-year-old is a three-time All-Star who just went 6-3 with a 1.63 ERA for the Mets. He had 28 saves, striking out 98 batters in 66.1 innings.

He's also been extremely durable, making at least 54 appearances or more in seven of his eight full seasons (he made 26 in the COVID-shortened 2020 season).

He missed the entire 2023 season after a leg injury suffered in the World Baseball Classic.

    Elsewhere for the Jays

Bo Bichette met virtually with the Boston Red Sox and Morosi reports several teams are interested in him, though the Jays do have interest in a reunion.

Furthermore, Dylan Cease will be introduced as a member of the Jays on Tuesday.
