Clement is at the World Series right now as a players correspondent.

Toronto Blue Jays infielder Ernie Clement has been at the World Series in Tampa Bay this week serving as a player media correspondent.

The infielder, who has spent four years with the Blue Jays and helped them get to the World Series in 2025, has been producing content for digital channels and social media, and he appeared on MLB Network on Tuesday before the Tampa Bay Rays won Game 4 against the Milwaukee Brewers.

Within the confines of the interview, Clement was asked about his thoughts on the media and if he could see himself being in the media when his playing days are over. He acknowledged that he was having fun in the role but that he did find it challenging.

He was also asked which player from baseball history he would like to interview, and he said Mickey Mantle because he used to be a Yankees fan growing up in Rochester, N.Y.

We'll let that Yankees fan comment slide, I suppose. And Mantle is one of the best players in history, so that seems like an appropriate response.

About Mickey Mantle

An 18-year veteran of the Yankees, Mantle was a 20-time All-Star at a time when there were two All-Star Games per season. He won seven World Series titles, three MVP Awards, a Gold Glove, a batting title and a Triple Crown.

A lifetime .298 hitter, he had 536 home runs, 1,509 RBIs, 153 stolen bases and a .421 on-base percentage. He led the American League in home runs four times and he hit 54 in the magical 1961 season, which was the most of any season in his career. He also had four seasons of 100 RBIs or more, including a league-best 130 in 1956.

He led the American League in on-base percentage three times, slugging percentage four times and OPS six times.

As for Clement?

He's earned a home in Toronto over the last four years, setting a postseason record with 30 hits in the 2025 playoffs. He was the team's starting second baseman this year, but struggled to be incredibly productive, posting an OPS+ of just 78. That said, he's an extremely likable personality and the Jays fans voted him in as the American League starter at second base in the All-Star Game.

It was his first All-Star Game appearance and he also represented Team USA at the World Baseball Classic. The Americans advanced to the final, falling to Venezuela.
