The Vancouver Canadians were well-rounded in 2026.
Congratulations are in order for the Vancouver Canadians, who were just named as the High-A organization of the Year by Minor League Baseball. The Canadians are the High-A affiliate of the Toronto Blue Jays.
The Canadians won the Northwest League title this year by beating the Eugene Emeralds (San Francisco Giants) in the championship series.
Jays' top prospect JoJo Parker ended his season with Vancouver, hitting .316 with seven RBIs in 21 games. He's one of two Top 100 prospects that Toronto has, according to MLB Pipeline. Nolan Perry (No. 94) is the other. He spent his time between Single-A Dunedin, Vancouver and Double-A New Hampshire. He went 3-3 for the Canadians with a 3.23 ERA, striking out 46 batters in 30.2 innings.
He was just named one of the organization's Prospects of the Year as well.
Additional awards
While the Canadians were winning minor league awards, the Blue Jays are onto award season at the major league level.
On Wednesday, five separate Blue Jays players were nominated for American League Gold Glove Awards.
Also on Wednesday, Dylan Cease was named as a finalist for the American League's "Most Outstanding Pitcher," as nominated by the MLB Players in the Players Choice Awards.
Cease served as the leader of a beaten up starting rotation for the Jays, going 11-6 with a 2.40 ERA. He made 29 starts, falling just short of the 30-start threshold. He struck out 239 batters in just 169.0 innings and he led the American League in hits/9 (5.8), homers/9 (0.6) and strikeouts/9 (12.7).
American League playoff picture
The Cleveland Guardians currently lead the Tampa Bay Rays 2-1 in the American League Championship Series. The Rays last appeared in the World Series in the COVID-shortened 2020 season while the Guardians last appeared in 2016.
The Rays have never won the title and are helmed by former Blue Jays catcher Kevin Cash.
He made his major league debut with the 2002 Blue Jays, going 2-for-7 in a seven-game sample. He played 34 games in 2003, hitting .142 with one home run. He played 60 games in 2004, hitting .193 with a career-high four homers, and that was it for his Jays tenure as he was traded to the Rays in December for reliever Chad Gaudin.
He never appeared in a playoff game for Toronto.
On the other side
The Milwaukee Brewers defeated the Los Angeles Dodgers in four games to capture the National League pennant. Milwaukee hasn't been to the World Series since 1983. They've never won one.
