Trey Yesavage went on the injured list on Wednesday, and now the Blue Jays have to wonder if he'll pitch again this season.
The Toronto Blue Jays topped the Houston Astros on Wednesday to take the three-game series down in Houston, but the news wasn't all good, as the team placed starting pitcher Trey Yesavage on the injured list with a knee issue.
And now, the Jays have to wonder if he'll pitch at all again this season.
As noted by Shi Davidi of Sportsnet, Yesavage has an issue in his meniscus and will go visit a specialist. Manager John Schneider says that any time you go visit a specialist, surgery is a potential outcome, but the team is hoping to avoid that.
Obviously, surgery or no surgery will be a huge factor in whether or not he pitches again this season.

Drafted in the first round of the 2024 MLB Draft out of East Carolina, Yesavage shot through the minor league ranks in 2025, debuting with the Blue Jays in September and playing a critical role in the team's run to the World Series.
Yesavage won games in the American League Division Series, ALCS and World Series, keeping the team's season alive in Game 6 of the ALCS with a win over the Seattle Mariners at Rogers Centre.
This season, he began the year on the injured list with a shoulder impingement, but has rebounded to go 5-5 with a 3.65 ERA through 18 starts. He's struck out 91 batters in 93.2 innings.
Yesavage is a foundational piece of the Jays moving forward, and he'll be penciled into the 2027 rotation, regardless of what happens in the rest of this season.

The Blue Jays got a jump start on their 2027 rotation by acquiring right-handed pitcher Jose Soriano at the trade deadline from the Los Angeles Angels.
He will pair with Yesavage and Dylan Cease, as well as Cody Ponce, who has missed all but one start this season because of a torn Achilles.
Bowden Francis, Spencer Arrighetti, Nolan Perry, Jake Bloss, Ricky Tiedemann and others could be in contention for the No. 5 spot.

The Blue Jays, despite the poor record, are still just 3.0 games back of the third and final wild card spot. They will play the Chicago Cubs on Thursday afternoon at 2:20 p.m. ET. It's a one-off game for the Jays, who are making up a rainout from earlier in the season.
There was some thoughts that Kevin Gausman would start this game for Chicago, but he will not.
