Taking a look at the Blue Jays roster situation heading into 2027.

The Toronto Blue Jays were one of the most injury-plagued teams in baseball in 2026, missing more than 2,000 cumulative days of action because of more than 30 individual trips to the injured list.

Many of those players who missed significant time will be relied upon heavily again in the 2027 campaign as the Jays look to turn around a 79-83 season.

With regards to the injury situation, let's take a look at some housecleaning in advance of 2027.

How many players are currently on the injured list for Toronto?

At the moment, there are nine players from the 40-man roster listed on the 60-day injured list.

Those players are: Jose Berrios, Jake Bloss, Patrick Corbin, Bowden Francis, Yimi Garcia, Cody Ponce, Addison Barger, Jonatan Clase and Anthony Santander.

Any player who ended the season on the 15-day injured list has already been re-instated, like Dylan Cease.

What about the pending free agents?

The day after the World Series ends, players who are free agents will immediately go into the free agent pool. That means that Corbin and Garcia will be off the Blue Jays' 60-day IL and the Jays number of injured players will drop from nine to seven.

And what about those seven?

By the time we get to five days after the World Series, a team has to have its 40-man roster for the offseason set.

So, assuming the Blue Jays want all seven of those players on the 40-man roster through the offseason, the Jays will have to clear seven 40-man roster spots to have room for them.

Shane Bieber, Jameson Taillon, Max Scherzer, Luis Urias, Paul Sewald, and George Springer will also head to free agency, so that opens up six roster spots right there.

If the Blue Jays want to decline the option on Myles Straw's contract and make him a free agent, that would be the seventh open spot.

Of course, the Blue Jays can make additional moves by designated players for assignment that they no longer want on the 40-man roster. So, there's lots of maneuvering that will happen between 1-5 days after the World Series.

And what's happening now?

The Blue Jays are likely figuring out if they want to make additional roster moves with the 40-man. Beyond that? They are doing exactly what you and I are doing: Watching the playoffs at home and being disappointed about transpired in 2026.
