Patrick Corbin will be up in the majors with the Blue Jays after just one minor league start

The Toronto Blue Jays starting rotation has been dealt with the injury bug hard though the first two weeks of the season.

The Blue Jays had three starters — Jose Berrios, Trey Yesavage and Shane Bieber — go down in or at the start of spring training due to respective injuries, although all three seem to be progressing.

Toronto signed veteran hurler and three-time Cy Young winner Max Scherzer to a one-year, $3 million contract to help round out the starting rotation. The rotation ended up suffering another loss when offseason free agent-singing Cody Ponce suffered an ACL sprain. He recently underwent surgery for the injury.

Due to the number of starters down, the Blue Jays made the decision to sign veteran left-hander Patrick Corbin to a one-year deal.

Despite not being signed to a team this offseason, Corbin's individual work had him ramped up to an 80-pitch workload. He was expected to make one-to-two starts in the minor leagues before he was called up to the majors.

Corbin's call-up was made the more imperative when Scherzer exited his most recent start against the Los Angeles Dodgers on Monday. He left after two innings due to right tendinitis but is expected to make his next scheduled start against the Minnesota Twins on April 12.

Corbin was called up to the major league roster April 7 and is scheduled to make his Blue Jays and season debut in the majors against the Twins at 7:07 p.m. ET on Thursday at the Rogers Centre.

Corbin made one start with the Single-A Dunedin Blue Jays against the Bradenton Marauders on April 4. He struck out nine batters, walked one and allowed one unearned run on four hits in five innings pitched.

Corbin, a two-time All-Star (2013, 2018) and one-time World Series champions (2019), last pitched for the Texas Rangers in 2025. He posted a 4.40 ERA and fanned 131 batters in 151.1 innings pitched across 31 appearances (30 starts).

With Corbin on the major league club, Toronto's starting rotation is now comprised of: him, Scherzer, Kevin Gausman, Dylan Cease and Eric Lauer.

More so, the makeshift rotation will have to navigate these injury-plagued waters without the team's All-Star catcher.

Alejandro Kirk took a ricocheted foul ball to the hand, which resulted in a fractured thumb that will keep him out for three-to-six weeks.

The Blue Jays currently have a 5-7 overall record and snapped a six-game losing streak after beating the Dodgers 4-3 on Wednesday.
