Juan Sanchez, one of the team's top international signings in recent memory, is continuing to climb the affiliate ladder.
While the Toronto Blue Jays continue to struggle at the major league level, there are some exciting developments happening down on the farm.
First, top infield prospect JoJo Parker hit his first professional home run on Tuesday night for the Single-A Dunedin Blue Jays. Then, fellow top prospect Juan Sanchez was promoted to Dunedin on Thursday.
Keegan Matheson of MLB.com had that information on social media:
No. 7 prospect Juan Sanchez is joining the Single-A Dunedin Blue Jays, per source, where he'll join No. 2 prospect JoJo Parker.
Potential for this to be a special duo coming up through the minors together. People around the organization are extremely high on Sanchez.
About Sanchez
As noted, Sanchez is ranked as the No. 7 prospect in the organization, per MLB Pipeline. He was signed as an international free agent out of the Dominican Republic in January of 2025 and spent the 2025 campaign in the Dominican Summer League.
While in the DSL, he hit .341 with a .439 on-base percentage. He posted an OPS of 1.004 while hitting eight home runs and driving in 40. He walked 26 times in those 56 games.
What's the future?
MLB Pipeline projects him to make his major league debut in 2029, which means there's plenty of things that can happen between now and then that impact his major league future.
The Blue Jays will have shed the contracts of Kevin Gausman, George Springer, Jeff Hoffman and Daulton Varsho by then, so there is going to be financial freedom to do things. If the Blue Jays use that money on the middle infield, then Sanchez will have a tougher time making an impact.
If they don't, then he will have an easier time, obvioulsy.
Also factoring into things are the other middle infield prospects that Toronto has at similar stages of development. Parker is the No. 40 prospect in baseball and Arjun Nimmala is No. 69. All three players are 20 years old or younger and will arrive in the majors around the same time.
Is there room for all three? Do all three pan out? Does someone need to be moved? Those are all things that the Blue Jays will have to evaluate and figure out over the next few years.
Up next
After finishing up a three-game series with the Milwaukee Brewers on Thursday, the Blue Jays will go further west on Friday. They'll take on the Arizona Diamondbacks for a weekend series at Chase Field.
