The Blue Jays are looking for help on the big league roster, and they did that via a trade with the Chicago White Sox.

After dropping Sunday's series finale against the Minnesota Twins, the Toronto Blue Jays are off on Monday night.

But just because the team isn't playing on the field, it doesn't mean that the front office isn't working.

The Blue Jays swung a trade on the off day, acquiring versatile infielder Lenyn Sosa from the Chicago White Sox for minor league outfielder Jordan Rich, as well as a player to be named later or cash considerations.

Furthermore, the Jays transferred right-handed pitcher Shane Bieber to the 60-day injured list. He hasn't pitched all season because of forearm fatigue, presumably related to the Tommy John surgery he underwent in 2024 and returned from in 2025.

Here's what you need to know.

About Sosa

A 26-year-old native of Venezuela, Sosa broke in with the White Sox in 2022. Since then, he's become a career .245 hitter with 37 home runs and 128 RBIs. He hit .264 a season ago with 22 homers, turning into a full-time player for Chicago.

Thus far, he's out to a .212 start in 12 games. He has no homers and three RBIs.

He's played 197 career games at second base, 65 at third base, 46 at first base and five at shortstop, so he does offer the Blue Jays some versatility.

He's under contract through the 2029 season.

How does he fit?

It remains to be seen, frankly. Could the Blue Jays utilize him as the utility infielder and send Tyler Fitzgerald down? Maybe. Could they send Eloy Jimenez back down, who was just brought up on Sunday? Also maybe.

The Blue Jays are dealing with injuries to George Springer, Anthony Santander and Alejandro Kirk, putting them in a bind on the position player front.

About Rich

He was a 17th-round pick of the Blue Jays in the 2025 draft out of the Florida high school ranks. Still just 18 years old, he's yet to accumulate any professional stats.

As for Bieber

Now 30 years old, Bieber is an eight-year veteran of the Cleveland Guardians and Blue Jays. The Cy Young winner in the COVID-shortened 2020 season, he's 66-34 lifetime with a 3.24 ERA. He is a two-time All-Star who won a career-high 15 games in 2019. He picked up his player option in the offseason, returning to Toronto.

The roster move isn't necessarily surprising. Since he didn't pitch at all in spring training, he needs a full build up with a complete rehab assignment. He likely wasn't going to be ready to pitch until late May anyways, but this officially confirms it.

The Blue Jays will play the Brewers on Tuesday night at 7:40 p.m. ET.
