John Schneider said he called Red Sox skipper Chad Tracy before the two play each other on Monday night.

The Toronto Blue Jays open up a three-game series against the Boston Red Sox on Monday night at Rogers Centre (7:07 p.m. ET) and they'll do so with both teams looking to reverse their fortunes.

The Blue Jays enter the series at 12-15 and in fourth place in the American League East while the Red Sox are 11-17 and in last place.

And the Red Sox' issues go even deeper than that, as they just fired manager Alex Cora and several members of his staff on Saturday night.

And though the Red Sox are 1-0 in the Chad Tracy managerial era, there are questions about how the organization moves forward given that several players appear unhappy with what's transpiring in Boston.

There's no doubt that Tracy is stepping into a tough situation, and the Blue Jays will hope it gets a little tougher this week, but regardless, manager John Schneider is taking the high road. He revealed that he called Tracy on Monday.

Per Mitch Bannon of The Athletic:

John Schneider said he reached out to new Red Sox manager Chad Tracy this morning, paying it forward from his time as an interim: "People did that to me, especially in the division, when I was literally in the same spot. So it felt like paying it forward." #BlueJays

The 46-year-old Schneider took over in the 2022 season for the fired John Gibbons and immediately went 46-28 and led the Blue Jays to the playoffs. He also led the Blue Jays to the playoffs in 2023, but was 0-4 in his playoff career until the epic World Series run in 2025.

As a result of that playoff success, Schneider was given a contract extension and the Jays entered this season as one of the favorites in the American League once again.

The Blue Jays placed starting pitcher Max Scherzer on the injured list on Monday afternoon, which means he won't make his scheduled start on Wednesday against Boston. It's being called a forearm issue and an ankle for the future Hall of Famer, who needs just one strikeout to reach the 3,500 strikeout plateau.

With him out of the rotation, there's a chance that Eric Lauer could make an additional start. Jose Berrios will also be back from the injured list (stress fracture in elbow) in short order, which could help the situation further.

It's been a nightmare start for Scherzer, who is just 1-3 with a 9.64 ERA to this point.
