Addison Barger's return to the Blue Jays was short-lived and he was placed back on the shelf before a game against the Tampa Bay Rays

The Toronto Blue Jays injury troubles are continuing to persist for the team.

Ahead of a three-game series against the Tampa Bay Rays, which began at 7:07 p.m. ET on Monday at Rogers Centre in Toronto, the Blue Jays placed a valuable outfielder on the injured list for the second time this season after a brief return to the club.

Toronto placed outfielder Addison Barger on the 10-day injured list with right elbow inflammation. The placement was retroactive to May 10.

Barger spent a month on the IL from April 6-May 8 due to a left ankle sprain. He played just one game before landing on the shelf, which came on Saturday against the Los Angeles Angels.

Barger went 0-for-3, walked twice and scored a run in his only game back.

Barger also made a 101.2-mph throw from right field to home plate during the game against the Angels to record an out.

According to a report on "X" from Sportsnet reporter Arden Zwelling, Barger received a cortisone shot in his elbow and will be shut down from baseball activities for three-to-four days.

According to pregame comments made by Blue Jays manager John Schneider, which were reported on "X" by Sportsnet reporter Shi Davidi, MRIs revealed nothing structurally wrong with Barger's elbow.

The team is hoping for a shorter IL stint for Barger this time around.

In Barger's stead, Toronto recalled outfielder Yohendrick Pinango from the Triple-A Buffalo Bisons. Pinango was on the team filling in for Barger during the latter's first IL stint.

Pinango has filled in well for Barger. In 10 games entering Monday, Pinango has slashed .423/.444/.462 with a .906 OPS, has hit a double and has four RBIs.

This year is Pinango's first in the major leagues. The 24-year-old was originally signed by the Chicago Cubs on July 2, 2018, as an international free agent out of Venezuela.

Barger was a massive part of the Blue Jays' American League pennant-winning team last season.

In 2025, Barger slashed .243/.301/.454 with a .755 OPS in 131 games and hit 32 doubles, a triple and 21 home runs with 74 RBIs. He was also regarded as one of the best defenders on the team, as evidenced by his triple-digit throw against Los Angeles on Saturday.

This year, Barger has struggled to get the bat going in the midst of dealing with his injuries. He just has one hit in 28 plate appearances, a double, and two RBIs. He's played in nine games total.
