The Americans are taking on Team Canada on Friday night in the quarterfinals of the World Baseball Classic.

The World Baseball Classic continues on Friday night with two quarterfinal games: The Dominican Republic will take on Team Korea at 6:30 p.m. ET while the United States will take on Team Canada at 8:00 p.m. ET.

The US features Toronto Blue Jays infielder Ernie Clement while Canada features Jays prospect Adam Macko. This year marks the first time that Team Canada has ever advanced to the elimination round of the tournament.

In addition to Clement, the Americans have added another member of the Jays for the elimination round: Reliever Tyler Rogers.

As noted by the World Baseball Classic on social media, Rogers is into the mix with Will Vest (Detroit Tigers) and Tim Hill (New York Yankees). The trio replaces Tarik Skubal, Michael Wacha and Ryan Yarbrough. Skubal's situation is well-documented, but it's likely that Wacha and Yarbrough have left the team in order to get more work in in preparation for the MLB season ahead.

About Rogers

Now 35 years old, Rogers is a seven-year veteran of the San Francisco Giants and New York Mets. He's gone 26-23 with a 2.76 ERA in his career, making 68 appearances or more in each season from 2019-2025. He also led the National League in appearances (29) in the COVID shortened 2020 season, which was just 60 games long.

He signed a three-year deal worth $37 million this offseason and will be a key member of John Schneider's bullpen, where he'll pair at the back end with Jeff Hoffman, Louis Varland and an eventually healthy Yimi Garcia.

He's appeared in seven spring training games this year, registering seven strikeouts and walking nobody. He has a 3.86 ERA.
