
Tyler Rogers, just recently added to the Americans roster, was excellent in the bottom of the fifth inning of the World Baseball Classic semifinal against the Dominican Republic.
The United States advanced to the finals of the World Baseball Classic on Sunday night, beating the loaded Dominican Republic team 2-1 in front of a raucous crowd at loanDepot Park in Miami.
The US will play the winner of Venezuela and Italy in the final on Tuesday. Those two teams will play on Monday night.
The Americans are looking for their second WBC title and first since 2017, while neither Italy or Venezuela have ever won before.
A trio of Toronto Blue Jays played in the Sunday night contest, with Vladimir Guerrero Jr. hitting a ringing double for DR and reliever Tyler Rogers providing one of the standout moments of the night for Team USA.
In the bottom of the fifth inning, with the Americans leading 2-1, Rogers replaced starting pitcher Paul Skenes with two men on and one man out.
Pitching against New York Mets star Juan Soto, Rogers induced an inning-ending 6-3 double play. Bobby Witt Jr. fielded the ball behind the bag, touched second and threw to first baseman Bryce Harper for the out.
Rogers was just added to the roster before the knockout round and did not play with Team USA through pool play.
Ernie Clement entered the game as a pinch-runner.
About Rogers
Now 35 years old, Rogers is a seven-year veteran of the San Francisco Giants and Mets. He's gone 26-23 with a 2.76 ERA in his career, making 68 appearances or more in each full season from 2019-2025. He also led the National League in appearances (29) in the COVID shortened 2020 season, which was just 60 games long.
He signed a three-year deal worth $37 million this offseason and will be a key member of John Schneider's bullpen, where he'll pair at the back end with Jeff Hoffman, Louis Varland and an eventually healthy Yimi Garcia.
He's appeared in seven spring training games this year, registering seven strikeouts and walking nobody. He has a 3.86 ERA.

--Blue Jays infielder Andres Gimenez is a member of Team Venezuela, so Jays fans have another reason to watch on Monday night (8 p.m. ET).
--Hoffman has also joined Team USA, though he did not pitch on Sunday night. He'll give manager Mark DeRosa another matchup opportunity in the championship game. Hoffman had 33 saves a season ago for Toronto, his first with the Blue Jays.
--We're still awaiting the results of Jose Berrios's visit to Dr. Keith Meister. He's been battling elbow inflammation and has already had an MRI.
