The Blue Jays called the Cleveland Guardians about Steven Kwan, interestingly enough.

The Toronto Blue Jays had an incredible season in 2025, winning the American League East for the first time in a decade and advancing to the World Series for the first time since 1993. Toronto also came within one win of winning that World Series, falling in Game 7 to the Los Angeles Dodgers.

This offseason, Toronto has been ultra-aggressive in trying to erase the pain of 2025, signing Dylan Cease, Cody Ponce, Tyler Rogers and Kazuma Okamoto to multi-year deals. They also offered Kyle Tucker a 10-year deal before he signed with Los Angeles.

That aggression follows up what the Jays did at the 2025 trade deadline, as they brought in relievers Louis Varland and Seranthony Dominguez, as well as infielder Ty France.

However, as we learned on Tuesday, the Jays had even bigger ideas in mind.

The following came from Mitch Bannon of The Athletic:

The Jays checked in on Steven Kwan at the trade deadline last year, and his lefty contact bat would fit perfectly, hitting between Springer and Vladimir Guerrero Jr. at the top of the lineup. However, the Cleveland Guardians were said to be asking for a gargantuan return.

At this point, that's nothing more than interesting, but it is interesting. Kwan is a two-time All-Star, a career .281 hitter, and he's a premium defender who would have paired with Daulton Varsho to elevate Toronto's defense as well.

He's under team control through 2027, so teams will likely continue to call on his availability this season, but with the Guardians seemingly always in contention, he'd be a hard piece to acquire.

Other news and notes

--Monday was 'truck day,' which is a great sign for baseball fans, as the Blue Jays equipment began it's route to Dunedin, Fla. for spring training.

--As noted by Bannon, and as also speculated here, it doesn't seem like there are many big moves left on the table for the Blue Jays this offseason - unless they want to get involved for the Cody Bellinger sweepstakes. At this point, it seems like that hasn't really been in their desires, with the Yankees and Mets seeming like the most likely destinations.

--The Blue Jays currently have three players set to participate in the 2026 World Baseball Classic. Vladimir Guerrero Jr. will play for the Dominican Republic with Alejandro Kirk playing for Mexico and Ernie Clement playing for Team USA. The tournament begins on March 4.
