Saturday was certainly an eventful day for Toronto Blue Jays right-hander Trey Yesavage.

First off, Yesavage, who was picked in the first round of the 2024 MLB Draft (East Carolina) officially graduated off the MLB Pipeline Top 100 prospects list.

Despite having made his debut last season, Yesavage retained his prospect status this season, but not anymore. He was ranked inside the Top 10. Taking his place is Seattle Mariners infielder Felnin Celesten.

Beyond that, Yesavage delivered an uncharacteristic start for himself as the Blue Jays took on the Baltimore Orioles in game three of a four-game set at Camden Yards. The righty went five innings, giving up just one run on two hits. However, he had seven walks against four strikeouts, needing 92 pitches to get through the five innings. 

He was replaced by Yariel Rodriguez in the bottom of the sixth inning. The Blue Jays ended up losing 6-5 in the bottom of the ninth inning, costing Yesavage his third win of the season.

Despite the control issues in his one, Yesavage remains one of the best young starters in baseball. He has an ERA of 2.19 with 39 strikeouts in 37 innings. His WHIP is still only 1.16. He's 2-2.

Yesavage made his debut in September of last season, throwing in three regular season games for the Blue Jays, which set him up well to make an impact in the playoffs.

Despite his limited experiences, he won games in the American League Division Series, American League Championship Series and World Series as the Blue Jays came painfully close to winning their first World Series since 1993. 

His win in Game 6 of the ALCS against the Mariners helped extend Toronto's season to the point where they could even advance to the World Series.

Yesavage started the season on the injured list with a right shoulder impingement and didn't make his debut until April 28. While no one ever wants to see anyone injured, especially someone as good as Yesavage, it's possible the injury was a blessing in that it reduced his innings for 2026, something the Jays probably would have wanted to do anyways given the extended workload last season.

The Jays will finish off the month of May on Sunday with another contest against the O's. Toronto hasn't officially named a starter, but it's expected that Spencer Miles will throw bulk innings in relief. Kyle Bradish will take the ball for Baltimore. He's just 2-6, but has a solid 3.86 ERA.
