Toronto went 79-83 this season, finishing in last place in the AL East, as injuries took their toll.

After getting to the World Series in 2025, the expectations were sky high for the Toronto Blue Jays in 2026. However, the team failed to meet those expectations, going 79-83 and finishing last in the American League East.

Part of the reason for the regression? Injuries.

Toronto was among the most injured teams in the league in terms of number of IL stints and number of days missed. Several players, including Jose Berrios, Bowden Francis, Yimi Garcia, Cody Ponce, Anthony Santander, Addison Barger, Alejandro Kirk, Shane Bieber, Trey Yesavage, Dylan Cease, Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and George Springer all missed time. Berrios, Santander, Francis and Garcia missed the entire season. Ponce made just one start. Barger played just nine games.

As a result of all the injuries, there was an incredible roster churn all season for Toronto, who used 64 different players in total.

What's coming next for the Jays?

Well, like all of us, the Blue Jays are waiting for the World Series to end.

The Milwaukee Brewers have a 3-0 series lead on the Tampa Bay Rays in the best-of-seven, meaning the series could end as early as Tuesday.

Once the season ends, players who are pending free agents will automatically exit the 40-man roster. At that point, the Blue Jays will have five days to exclusively deal with their own free agents.

Once that five-day window is up, free agency will open to all teams. And of course, we're all waiting for the pending MLB lockout to take hold on Dec. 2.
