Free agency will begin five days after the World Series.

After going 79-83 and missing the playoffs this season, the Toronto Blue Jays are onto the business of the Major League Baseball offseason.

But that business is largely halted right now because of the MLB Playoffs which are still ongoing. The new league year doesn't start until five days after the World Series, so the Blue Jays are really just in the planning stage right now.

One of the things they have to plan for? The open roster spaces that will arise as a result of free agency. The Blue Jays are scheduled to have several players become free agents once the new league year opens.

George Springer

A 13-year veteran of the Houston Astros and Blue Jays, Springer has reached the end of the six-year, $150 million deal that he signed before 2021. He's coming off a .249 season with 15 homers and 54 RBIs, and while he'll likely get an opportunity in 2027 if he wants it, retirement does seem to be on the table. We've discussed how likely it might be for him to return to Toronto already.

Max Scherzer

The future Hall of Famer spent each of the last two years in Toronto, helping the team get to the World Series in 2025. Unfortunately, he battled injuries both years and went just 4-9 with a 5.74 ERA in 18 starts this year. Retirement is also on the table for him, but no decisions have been made.

Luis Urias

A nine-year veteran of several teams, Urias played 26 games for Toronto this season, hitting .250 with three homers and eight RBIs. He's still just 29 years old.

Patrick Corbin

Signed to help alleviate all the pitching injuries for this team, Corbin made 19 appearances before getting injured himself. Now 37 years old, he went 3-4 with a 5.51 ERA, striking out 63 batters in 80.0 innings.

Now 31 years old, Bieber is a nine-year veteran of the Cleveland Guardians and Blue Jays. He owns a career record of 71-36 and an ERA of 3.31. He won the American League Cy Young in the COVID-shortened 2020 season when he went 8-1 with a 1.63 for Cleveland.

In parts of two seasons with Toronto, he went 9-4 with a 4.03 ERA. He only made 18 regular season appearances between the two years though because of injuries, and he ended the season on the injured list with a right shoulder issue. He has said he wants to return, but it's unclear if the Jays really need a fifth starter at this point.

Paul Sewald

The former closer of the Seattle Mariners and Arizona Diamondbacks went 0-0 with a 0.63 ERA in 17 appearances for the Jays, throwing 14.1 innings.

Yimi Garcia

Garcia didn't pitch at all this season because of injury and he only made 22 appearances last season. He's now 36 years old.

Jameson Taillon

Acquired from the Chicago Cubs around the trade deadline, Taillon only made three appearances for the Jays before going down with elbow issues.
