Shortstop JoJo Parker continued his strong first year in the minor leagues Wednesday.
The Toronto Blue Jays are still looking to find a consistent footing at the major league level after dropping a series to the Houston Astros following a 3-1 loss Wednesday. The Blue Jays are 39-41 following the series loss.
While Toronto is struggling at the major league level, the organization has seen some returns from its top prospects in the farm system.
One of those prospects is shortstop JoJo Parker, who seems to be finding his footing for the Single-A Dunedin Blue Jays following a slow start to the year.
The Blue Jays selected Parker with the eighth overall pick in the 2025 MLB Draft out of high school. Despite him being a high school prospect, he was considered one of the most surefire players available in the draft.
Parker is ranked as the No. 29 prospect in baseball, per MLB Pipeline's top 100.
Parker didn't get a non-roster invitation to spring training, but was assigned to the Single-A Dunedin Blue Jays to begin the season.
The 19-year-old shortstop slashed .219/.387/.384 in 73 at-bats his first month in the minor leagues, but has seen his batting averages progressively increase in the two months since.
In May, Parker slashed .241/.362/.356 in 87 at-bats and in June, he's slashed .290/.384/.629 in 62 at-bats. He's hit five of his eight homers this month.
Parker's four homers in June have come in his last six games. His fourth came in a 9-3 loss against the Tampa Tarpons on Wednesday.
This season, Parker has slashed .248/.376/.441 with an .817 OPS in 60 games and has hit 15 doubles, two triples and eight homers with 39 RBIs and has stolen 19 bases in 22 attempts.
The 19-year-old is already ranked as Toronto's No. 1 prospect despite not having a full season in the team's organization.
Blue Jays fans will likely have to wait to see what Parker looks like on the major league level. He's projected to make his major league debut in 2029. By the time he's ready to play for Toronto in the majors, the team could be in a new era with its middle infield.
Fellow top 100 prospect and shortstop Arjun Nimmala, who's currently assigned to the Double-A New Hampshire Fisher Cats, is slashing .270/.367/.434 with an .801 OPS in 41 games this season and has hit 13 doubles and four homers with 22 RBIs. He's projected to make his major league debut in 2028.
