Sean Keys is certainly on the radar of the prospect gurus.

While the Toronto Blue Jays have been frustrating at the major league level this season, things at the minor league level are moving along nicely.

Top prospects JoJo Parker and Arjun Nimmala are off to nice starts, with Nimmala recently getting promoted to Double-A, and Sean Keys is also catching some praise from the prospect gurus.

Baseball America just recently posted about him, saying that he's one of the 10 prospects around baseball who caught their eyes in organizational reports for May.

Double-A New Hampshire third baseman Sean Keys set a Fisher Cats franchise record for April with nine home runs...

More on Keys

The 22-year-old was a fourth-round pick of the Blue Jays in 2024 out of Bucknell who spent all of 2025 at High-A Vancouver. With Vancouver, he hit just .217 but posted a .365 on-base percentage, also hitting 22 doubles and 19 homers.

This season, he's hitting .294 at Double-A with a robust .425 on-base percentage. He's hit 10 homers and brought in 25 runs.

MLB Pipeline projects him to make his major league debut in 2027.

What's his future in the big leagues?

Like all things, it remains to be seen. Vladimir Guerrero Jr. is cemented at first base and Kazuma Okamoto, signed to a four-year deal this offseason, is currently playing third.

Could Keys come up and be a designated hitter, taking the place of free-agent-to-be George Springer? Maybe. Anthony Santander should be back from injury in 2027 and he could also be in the mix at the DH spot.

With those spots addressed, it will be hard for Keys to gain a steady footing in Toronto. Perhaps Okamoto could see more time in the outfield? Perhaps Keys can work to find another position? Or perhaps Keys can be a bench bat when he arrives.

What are they saying?

The following comes from a portion of his MLB.com prospect profile:

Keys’ power comes easy. An analytics darling coming out of the Draft, he is big and barrel-chested, producing pop without needing a max-effort swing. Whether Keys’ raw power shows up in games consistently will be a deciding factor on his long-term ceiling, but either way, his profile is heavily tied to his bat. This system is lush with position player prospects easily defined as “solid across the board,” so Keys is a rare case of a profile leaning heavily on the slug.

Elsewhere for the Blue Jays

The Blue Jays will open up a three-game series with the Detroit Tigers on Friday night at Comerica Park. We covered the full pitching matchups here, but Trey Yesavage will pitch against Brenan Hanifee on Friday. Ty Madden will follow him, as he's the opener.
