The postseason hero left Monday's crushing World Series loss with an apparent oblique issue, but there are no concrete answers yet.

The Toronto Blue Jays are in "wait-and-see" mode with regards to outfielder/designated hitter George Springer, who left Monday's 6-5 loss with right side discomfort.

Ben Nicholson-Smith reports that Springer went for an MRI and is considered day-to-day.

Springer was removed in the seventh inning and the Blue Jays eventually lost in 18 frames on a walk-off home run by Freddie Freeman. It was one of the most classic World Series games in recent memory, complete with multiple comebacks, extraordinary defense and big hits. Unfortunately, the Blue Jays now trail the series two games to one.

    If Springer can't go

If Springer is unable to go on Tuesday night in Game 4, it likely means that infielder Bo Bichette will slide into the designated role and Isiah Kiner-Falefa will play second. Bichette is making his first appearances since Sept. 6 and the team has been careful with him. He started Game 1 but was removed for a pinch-runner, then didn't start Game 2, but came in as a pinch-hitter.

He started in Game 3 but was removed in the seventh inning. It's unclear if he'd be able to stay in the whole game as a DH, but not playing defense would certainly help him stay off his feet.

Of course, the Jays are hoping that Springer can go, but side/oblique issues can be lingering and don't often heal quick.

    Springer's impact

One of the best postseason performers in recent memory, Springer is hitting .246 with four homers and nine RBIs this October. His three-run homer in Game 7 of the American League Championship Series helped send the Jays to the World Series. He was the MVP of the World Series in 2017 for the Houston Astros - who beat the Dodgers.

In the regular season, Springer hit .309 with 32 homers and 84 RBIs. It was a complete bounce back year after a down 2024. He also stole 18 bases and posted a .399 on-base percentage.

    What's next

The two teams will play again on Tuesday night with first pitch coming at 8:00 p.m. ET. Shane Bieber will take the mound for Toronto while Shohei Ohtani pitches for Los Angeles.

The two bullpens are certainly tired after the 18-inning affair, but all hands will continue to be on deck for manager John Schneider.
