After hitting a historic grand slam in Game 1 of the World Series on Friday night, Toronto Blue Jays outfielder Addison Barger is sending some of his equipment to the National Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, N.Y.
Barger hit a pinch-hit grand slam in Friday's 11-4 victory over the Los Angeles Dodgers, registering the first-ever pinch-hit grand slam in the World Series.
As noted by the Hall of Fame, he's sending his spikes to the museum.
There have been 24 grand slams in #WorldSeries history, but Addison Barger was the first player ever to knock one as a pinch hitter. He's donating his spikes from the @BlueJays' Game 1 win to the Hall of Fame.
The 24-year-old hit .243 for the regular season, but flashed great power, hitting 21 homers and driving in 74 runs. He's continued to show his skillset in the playoffs, hitting three home runs thus far with eight RBIs. He had two mammoth home runs in the American League Championship Series against the Seattle Mariners.
He figures to enter 2026 as a starter for the Jays, though it's unclear where. He's showed an ability to play both third base and right field. He played in 135 games this season, but was not starting Game 1 because left-hander Blake Snell was on the mound.
Ironically, his homer came off a lefty reliever, Anthony Banda.
After the Dodgers won 5-1 on Saturday night, the series is now even at one game apiece. The scene will shift back to Los Angeles for Game 3 on Monday night with first pitch coming at 8:00 p.m. ET. Right-hander Tyler Glasnow will take the mound for the Dodgers while veteran righty Max Scherzer pitches for the Blue Jays.
Scherzer is 1-0 this postseason, having won his only appearance. Glasnow is 0-0 but has a 0.68 ERA. He's struck out 18 batters.
--Bo Bichette did not start Game 2 for Toronto after starting Game 1. He's recovering from a knee sprain and clearly isn't 100 percent.
--The Dodgers are looking to become the first team to repeat as World Series champions since the 1999-00 Yankees.
