Boston Red Sox Make Splash Move in Multi-Player Trade With Milwaukee Brewers cover image

The Boston Red Sox acquired young talent at the hot corner in a six-player trade with the Brewers.

The Boston Red Sox made a big swing on the eve of spring training for a young player who fits into a long-term vision for the clubhouse – and is under team control through 2031. In a six-player trade on Monday, the Red Sox acquired third baseman Caleb Durbin from the Milwaukee Brewers, headlining the haul that includes infielder Andruw Monasterio, utility man Anthony Siegler and a competitive balance round B draft pick. In exchange, the Brewers are receiving lefty Kyle Harrison, infielder David Hamilton and lefty Shane Drohan.

The 25-year-old third baseman finished third in voting for National League Rookie of the Year after coming over from the New York Yankees via the Devin Williams trade before the 2025 season. He slashed .256/.334/.387 with 11 homers, 53 RBIs, and 18 stolen bases in 136 games last season. Now, Boston has either a starting second baseman or at the hot corner in Durbin. That may shake up the roster a bit as a result.

Here is the full story from Red Sox Roundtable writer Brady Farkas on the blockbuster deal that changes the picture ahead of spring training.

Boston had to give up a former top prospect in Harrison, who they acquired from the San Francisco Giants in the Rafael Devers trade. Hamilton was a productive speedster for the Red Sox as well, stealing 22 bases last season, though he only was hitting .198. Durbin offers a bit more well-rounded skillset, and makes things interesting for Boston ahead of spring training.
