The Boston Red Sox swept the New York Yankees in a doubleheader on Sunday, marking only the second time in the last 40 years that Boston has taken a twin-bill from its rivals.
The Boston Red Sox got back into the thick of the American League Wild Card race on Sunday by sweeping the New York Yankees in a doubleheader at Fenway Park.
Actually, the Sox swept all three games from the Yankees for the weekend and in doing so, moved to 37-35 on the season. Boston is now just three games back of the final wild card spot in the American League.
The doubleheader sweep also made some history in the Sox-Yankees rivalry.

The Red Sox did something Sunday they have only done twice to the Yankees in the last 40 years. Boston swept New York in a doubleheader (also done in 2006).
The Sox took Game 1 of the doubleheader, 6-2, before winning the nightcap, 4-1. It was a much-needed good weekend for the Sox, who were coming off a disappointing series against the Colorado Rockies when they lost two of three games.
One of the most positive things to come out of the weekend was the continued development of young Sox pitcher Brayan Bello. The rookie went seven innings in the late game, punching out eight batters and allowing just one run on four hits.
The Red Sox will have no time to celebrate the accomplishment as they travel to Minnesota on Monday for a four-game series with the American League Central-leading Twins.
First pitch on Monday is 7:40 p.m. ET as James Paxton gets the ball against Pablo Lopez.
Tuesday and Wednesday's game's will go off at 7:40 as well, while Thursday is a 1:10 p.m. ET start.
