The Braves' ace is on a heater to start 2026.
Atlanta Braves southpaw pitcher Chris Sale was coming off his third quality start of the year entering Saturday's matchup with the Philadelphia Phillies, and he followed up with a dominant effort. The nine-time All-Star logged seven innings, allowing just one run on five hits with seven strikeouts against one walk.

"Sale now has 2,608 strikeouts. That moves him past [Tom] Glavine and into eighth place on the all-time list for left-handers," he reported. "He needs just three more Ks to pass Chuck Finley. Next on the list would be Frank Tanana (2,773)."
Glavine pitched for the Braves from 1987 to 2002 and during his final year in 2008. The Massachusetts native earned NL Cy Young honors twice and was the 1995 World Series MVP.
Additionally, Finley was a five-time All-Star and is in the Los Angeles Angels Hall of Fame, while Tanana was a three-time All-Star and led the AL in ERA in 1977.

Philadelphia's only run came on Reyes's solo homer to right in the second, which was his first big-league at-bat. Sale did not allow a runner to get in scoring position for the rest of his outing, and the bullpen tossed two perfect innings to close the game. Southpaw Dylan Lee earned his third hold of the season in the eighth before right-hander Robert Suarez logged his first save in the ninth.
Austin Riley tied the game with an RBI single for the Braves in the third before Mauricio Dubon hit a two-run single in the same frame. Sanchez earned the loss, making his record 2-2.
Atlanta has won four straight games, including a 9-0 victory over Philadelphia in Friday's series opener. Sunday's series finale will start at 7:20 p.m. ET on Peacock. Right-handed pitcher Grant Holmes will start for the Braves against Phillies right-hander Andrew Painter.
After that, Atlanta will finish its road trip against the Washington Nationals before returning home to play the Phillies and Detroit Tigers. The squad is 1.5 games behind the Los Angeles Dodgers atop the NL.
