Atlanta Braves first baseman Matt Olson has not missed a regular-season game for the organization since his arrival.

Durability has become a defining trait for Atlanta Braves first baseman Matt Olson, and as the new season approaches, his remarkable consecutive‑games streak remains a major storyline. Olson enters the year as the active MLB leader with 782 straight games played, a stretch that dates back to his time with the Athletics and has continued seamlessly since joining Atlanta.

Since being acquired in a five‑player trade in 2022, Olson has been a constant presence in the Braves’ lineup. Just one day after the deal, Atlanta signed him to an eight‑year, $168 million extension, solidifying him as a long‑term piece of the franchise. Four years into that tenure, Olson has yet to miss a single game for the Braves, underscoring both his durability and importance.

As questions arise about whether he might take more rest days to preserve his health under new manager Walt Weiss, Olson made it clear his mindset has not changed.

“I think Walt [Weiss] knows I like to play if I can go. It’s kind of the program we’ve had here for awhile. I think that’s going to continue,” Olson said on an MLB Network Radio appearance when asked if he would take off days during the regular season.

That approach reflects Olson’s identity as a player who values consistency and availability. In an era where load management has become more common, his willingness to be in the lineup every day provides stability for Atlanta’s offense. It also speaks to the trust between Olson and the coaching staff, including Weiss, in managing his workload without sacrificing performance.

Olson’s production has matched his durability. In 2025, he appeared in all 162 games and posted a .272 batting average, .366 on‑base percentage and an .850 OPS, along with 29 home runs and 95 RBIs. He also led the National League with 41 doubles, showcasing his ability to drive the ball consistently.

Beyond the numbers, Olson’s defensive excellence remains a key asset. A three‑time Gold Glove winner and Silver Slugger, he provides elite defense at first base while anchoring the middle of the lineup. His third All‑Star selection last season further reinforced his status as one of the league’s top all‑around players.

For a Braves team with postseason expectations once again, Olson’s presence is critical. His ability to stay on the field every day not only boosts the lineup but also sets a tone for the rest of the roster.

As the streak continues to climb, Olson shows no signs of slowing down, and his reliability could once again be a major factor in Atlanta’s push toward returning to October.
