The Atlanta Braves will face off against the San Francisco Giants tonight in a makeup game at Truist Park.
Following a dominant three-game sweep over the Colorado Rockies this past weekend, the Atlanta Braves will have a makeup game tonight against the San Francisco Giants after a rain delay at Truist Park caused their June 18 finale to be postponed.
The Giants came out on top 7-2 as Atlanta starter Grant Holmes surrendered four hits, three walks and three earned runs in only two innings pitched.
Jung Hoo Lee dealt some of the damage with a sacrifice fly in the first that scored Luis Arráez while also launching a solo homer in the fifth to extend San Francisco's lead to 5-2.
Matt Chapman contributed with a sacrifice fly of his own in the second to drive in Drew Gilbert while sealing the Braves' fate on an RBI fielder’s choice that allowed Arráez to score once again.
Atlanta responded in game two with a late-ninth inning rally that saw Mauricio Dubón crush a two-run shot to center field and Drake Baldwin score on a wild pitch from reliever Tristan Beck to trim the Giants' lead to 7-5. Nonetheless, Beck held on to secure his first save on the season.
Both teams recently faced off later in the month at Oracle Park with the Braves taking the June 26 opener 3-1 when Ozzie Albies broke a 1-1 deadlock in the third with a one-run single that brought home Dubón.
Albies came through once more in the fifth to score Dubón with a sacrifice fly for the game-sealing run. However, San Francisco stormed back with a 5-0 shutout win the day after as Rafael Devers launched two homers and right-hander Logan Webb fanned six Braves while only giving up two walks and a single hit through seven innings pitched.
The Giants would also go on to earn the series win on June 28 with a narrow 3-2 victory in which Braves ace Chris Sale was charged with the loss despite striking out 10 batters and giving up a single earned run in six innings of work.
Now, Atlanta will have their sights set on securing another crucial win to pad onto their five-game lead in the NL East and gain traction for their upcoming series against the Washington Nationals.
First pitch of tonight's matchup is set for 6:05 p.m. EDT as right-hander Bryce Elder takes the mound against former Brave Anthony Molina who has compiled a 2.89 ERA and three strikeouts across four games this season.
