Braves closer Raisel Iglesias provides an important update.
The Atlanta Braves are playing well in 2026, but multiple players are currently injured. Star closer Raisel Iglesias is among the injured players. On Wednesday, Iglesias shared an update on his status, via Grant McAuley.
McAuley reports that Iglesias indicated that he is feeling good after he threw off the mound on Tuesday. It remains to be seen if Iglesias will need a rehab assignment, but it seems as if the reliever may be getting fairly close to returning.
Iglesias is dealing with a shoulder injury. Reports have suggested that Iglesias could return from the IL as soon as he is eligible next week. However, nothing has officially been decided. As long as no setbacks occur, it would not be surprising to see Iglesias closing out games soon.
Iglesias, 36, returned to the Braves this past offseason following a strong 2025 campaign. In eight games in 2026 before landing on the injured list, Iglesias did not allow a run across 8.2 innings of work. He recorded five saves during that span.
Iglesias has become one of the best relievers in the entire sport. Atlanta is finding ways to win ball games, but they will be in an even better position once the veteran closer returns from injury.

Starting pitcher Spencer Strider and Ha-Seong Kim are both working their way back from injury. According to Mark Bowman, Strider is expected to make his 2026 season debut on Sunday against the Colorado Rockies. Meanwhile, McAuley reports that Kim went 1-2 with a stolen base in his first rehab game on Wednesday.
This Braves ball club is only getting stronger. They are already 21-9 overall. Their lead in the National League East currently sits at seven games over the second place Miami Marlins. Atlanta has upset expectations throughout the first portion of the 2026 MLB season to say the least.
It is impressive how well they have played amid all of the injuries. They were also coming off of a down 2025 campaign, so it remained to be seen how the team would perform in 2026.
