Atlanta Braves Sign No. 15 Overall International Prospect cover image

The Atlanta Braves agreed to a contract with a shortstop who is ranked No. 15 on the Top 50 International Prospect List.

The Atlanta Braves made an addition on Thursday, which was the beginning of the international signing period for 2026. Thursday represented an opportunity for international players to sign with MLB ball clubs. According to MLB Pipeline, the Braves signed Jose Manon, a 17-year-old Dominican shortstop. The deal is reportedly worth $1.5 million.

Manon is the No. 15 overall prospect on MLB.com's Top 50 International Prospect List. He stands six-foot-two and weighs 165 pounds. Manon features a balanced skill set, but his power and speed stand out.

Of course, a shortstop who can run and hit for power will catch attention. He is still developing as a defender, but Manon has reportedly displayed signs of potential at the position. His glove and size suggest third base could make sense, but he does not have a great arm so perhaps playing shortstop will remain in his future.

The Braves have now landed a top 15 international prospect for a third consecutive season. Manon could end up making an impact in Atlanta down the road. At only 17 years old, however, it will be a while before Braves fans are able to see him play in the big leagues.

Braves' Farm System

The Braves have not been known for their farm system in recent years. With that being said, Atlanta has been able to produce some top prospects.

Left-handed pitcher Cam Caminiti was the Braves' top prospect in 2025. He is still a year or two away from reaching the big leagues, but his ceiling is quite high. JR Ritchie is another pitcher who could make an impact down the road. Overall, the team has a number of intriguing prospects.

It seems as if this Braves organization is making a significant effort to build from within. Sure, they will still go out and bring in players, but committing to improving the farm system is important.

While some of the prospects are selected in the MLB Draft out of high school or college, turning to international signings helps as well. Some of the best players in today's game were international signings.

Perhaps Jose Manon can become a star in the future. He certainly features the potential with his power and speed. The 17-year-old infielder still has room to improve, but it would not be surprising to see him end up handling shortstop duties for the Atlanta Braves in a few years at the big league level.
