The Braves promoted an infielder to the MLB team on Wednesday.
The Atlanta Braves promoted infielder Jim Jarvis to the big league roster on Wednesday, the team announced. Outfielder José Azócar was designated for assignment in a corresponding move.
Jarvis is hitting ninth and playing shortstop in his MLB debut on Wednesday. With Ha-Seong Kim set to return from injury fairly soon and Mauricio Dubon playing well, the move is somewhat surprising. However, Jarvis is a player who could make an impact in Atlanta.
He has played at the minor league level since 2023. The Braves have continued to monitor his progress. The shortstop has impressed at Triple-A this season, hitting .305/.418/.445 across 33 games played. The 25-year-old also hit four home runs and six doubles while stealing 15 bases.
The stolen base has been part of his game in recent years. He stole 25 bases in 2024 and 14 in 2025.
It will be interesting to see how much playing time he gets with the Braves. The infielder is certainly someone who could make an impact if given an opportunity.
As mentioned, Kim could return from his injury soon. Meanwhile, Dubon has played well while helping at shortstop amid Kim' injury absence. There likely is not an everyday opportunity for Jarvis at shortstop right now.
However, he will give the team depth. If they end up needing a shortstop in the future, he could receive the opportunity. He is looking to make a good first impression on Wednesday in Seattle.
Braves Continue Series vs. Mariners
Wednesday's contest between the Mariners and Braves represents the final matchup of a three-game series. The ball clubs have split the series up to this point. On Monday, Seattle earned a 5-4 win in a competitive ball game. Tuesday was also a close contest, as the Braves defeated the Mariners by a final score of 3-2.
Atlanta is hoping to earn another victory and clinch a series win on Wednesday. The Mariners are more than capable of getting the job done at home, though.
Following the series, the Braves will head to Los Angeles to play the Dodgers. That three-game series will begin on Friday and go through Sunday. It should be a competitive series as the Dodgers and Braves have been two of the best teams in baseball so far in 2026. It could realistically be an NLCS preview.
For now, the Braves are focused on their game against the Mariners in Seattle on Wednesday.
