Soler and Lopez received suspensions on Wednesday.
The Atlanta Braves and Los Angeles Angels were involved in a brawl on Tuesday night. The incident began after Angels slugger Jorge Soler and Braves pitcher Reynaldo Lopez exchanged words. The verbal exchange turned physical after a few moments and chaos followed. According to Jeff Passan, both players have been suspended for seven games. However, both Lopez and Soler appealed their suspensions and according to Chad Bishop, Lopez and MLB reached a settlement and his suspension is now only five games.
The Braves ultimately defeated the Angels 7-2 on Tuesday night. It was an emotional contest that saw Atlanta emerge victorious.
The Braves have dealt with no shortage of adversity this year. A number of starting pitchers -- including Spencer Strider and Spencer Schwellenbach -- suffered injuries during spring training. Jurickson Profar received a season-long suspension for PEDs during the spring as well. The brawl on Tuesday is the latest adversity this team is dealing with.
Yet, the Braves have played well with all things considered. Fans were not sure what to expect from Atlanta given all of the roster uncertainty. Perhaps the team will end up competing for a postseason spot in 2026. The Braves entered Wednesday's game against the Angels with a 7-5 record, which is good for second place in the National League East standings.
Reynaldo Lopez Receives 5-Game Suspension
The Braves will miss Lopez during his suspension. Still, a five-game absence is not too long considering the huge brawl that occurred on Tuesday night.
Lopez, 32, has pitched well across his three starts so far in 2026. The veteran right-hander has recorded a 1.15 ERA in 15.2 innings of work. Lopez has already surrendered three home runs, but he is doing a good job of limiting base runners for the most part. Additionally, Lopez has 13 strikeouts so far this season.
As mentioned, Atlanta is dealing with a number of starting pitching injuries. As a result, Lopez's performance has been of the utmost importance. The team would not be where they are right now without his impressive pitching.
With that being said, they are obviously hoping that there will be no repeats of what happened on Tuesday night. The Braves are looking to move on from the situation.
Following their series with the Angels in Anaheim, the ball club will return home to Atlanta to host the Cleveland Guardians and Miami Marlins in a six-game homestand.
