The Braves have been treated to exquisite play at first base in recent years.

There's consistency, and then there's Atlanta Braves first baseman Matt Olson. The 31-year-old has not missed a game for the Braves since they acquired him from the Athletics in March 2022, and he's reliable on both sides of the ball.

In 2023, for example, Olson became just the fourth MLB player to ever record a 50-homer season while playing all 162 games, per MLB.com. The Georgia native led baseball with 54 home runs and 139 RBIs that year while adding a .993 OPS and a career-high 7.4 WAR.

Olson has hit 29-plus homers while notching 95-plus RBIs and a .790-plus OPS in each season with Atlanta and won Gold Glove honors in 2025. Additionally, he's tied with Juan Pierre for the sixth-most 162-game seasons (five) in baseball history. He played each game for the Athletics in 2018 and played all 60 games in the COVID-shortened 2020 campaign.

Olson has also been consistent in the playoffs for the Braves, except for the 2025 postseason. The 6-foot-4, 225-pounder slashed .333/.529/.833 with two homers and five RBIs across four games in the 2022 postseason before slashing .250/.294/.250 over four games the following year. However, he slashed just .125/.125/.125 over two contests in 2024.

A moment where Olson's leadership stood out was when he didn't mince words while the team was slumping this past April, via former Atlanta Journal-Constitution writer Justin Toscano.

"We gotta play better. There’s no secret to that," the veteran said. "Sure, we got a lot of games left, but we can’t do this [expletive] forever. We gotta find a way to start playing better baseball all the way around."

Atlanta missed the playoffs in 2025, which was the first time that happened since 2017. However, the club is in good hands with Olson at first base moving forward.

Not only has Olson earned his money with Atlanta so far, he's under contract through 2029 with a club option in 2030, per Spotrac. That's thanks to the eight-year, $168 million arbitration extension he signed the day after they acquired him.

Olson is the safest investment a baseball team can have. The former Silver Slugger is one of the most durable and productive players in the sport, still in his early 30s, which gives him several prime years left.

The Braves haven't reached the mountaintop with Olson yet, but that could change as soon as 2026.
