Atlanta's iron man solidified his status as the most decorated first baseman in this award's history.

Matt Olson has spent five seasons with the Atlanta Braves without missing a game, and his latest award adds another piece to a defensive résumé that now stands ahead of every first baseman in Fielding Bible history.

Olson won his sixth Fielding Bible Award on Thursday, surpassing Albert Pujols for the most by a player at the position. The 32-year-old has now won the award in three consecutive seasons, reinforcing his standing as one of the most reliable defenders in the game even as Atlanta's season ended short of its ultimate goal.

The Braves finished 94-68 to win the National League East, but their postseason run ended in four games against the Los Angeles Dodgers in the NL Division Series. Olson's individual season, however, offered a different story. He appeared in all 162 games for the fifth straight year and hit 41 home runs with 93 RBIs, finishing with a .251 average and a .502 slugging percentage.

His defense is what made Thursday's announcement especially significant.

According to MLB.com's Shanthi Sepe-Chupuru, Olson edged out San Diego Padres first baseman Ty France in a close vote. The Fielding Bible Awards, presented by Sports Info Solutions, recognize the top defender at each position using a combination of statistical analysis and evaluation from a panel of experts.

Olson's numbers made a strong case. He recorded a .994 fielding percentage across 1,311 defensive chances, committing only eight errors. He also finished around the 97th percentile in outs above average, a measure of how often a defender turns plays into outs compared with an average player at the same position.

The award puts Olson in rare company across the sport. He is now tied with Yadier Molina and Andrelton Simmons for second on the all-time Fielding Bible list, behind Mookie Betts, who has seven. Olson has also collected three Gold Glove Awards and earned four All-Star selections during his career.

That consistency has been particularly valuable for Atlanta since acquiring Olson from the Oakland Athletics after the 2021 season. He took over at first base following Freddie Freeman's departure and has remained a fixture in the lineup ever since.

The Braves will enter the offseason coming off a disappointing postseason exit, but Olson's latest honor gives the organization another reminder of what has remained steady through the ups and downs of its season. His power production continues to anchor the middle of the order, while his work at first base has now earned him more recognition than any player at the position in Fielding Bible history.

Although Olson is never one to play for the accolades, catching Betts for a share of the all-time lead has to be on his mind heading into 2027.
