The win is the Brewers’ 70th of the 2026 season, and it also broke a four-game losing streak against the Pirates. How did they get it done?
Logan Henderson’s contributions
After the Brewers missed out on Tarik Skubal, It was reported by Adam McCalvy of MLB.com that one official believed that a package from Milwaukee to lure the Detroit Tigers into trading Skubal would have included right-hander Logan Henderson.
If that were the case and the Brewers agreed, Skubal may have been getting ready to suit up for them while Henderson would also be getting acclimated to his new team. Instead, the 24-year-old remained in Milwaukee, and he made his 10th start of the season.
On Tuesday, he showed the Brewers made the right choice.
Henderson delivered six innings for Milwaukee and struck out eight batters. He did allow two walks and two home runs, but otherwise produced a strong outing.
Henderson’s efforts earned him the winning decision, his sixth in a row, to push him to 6-1 on the year. Henderson may have been enough to facilitate a trade for Skubal, but Brewers President of Baseball Operations Matt Arnold made it clear that Milwaukee wanted to remain responsible at the Trade Deadline.
While missing out on Skubal might sting — especially because he is going to be suiting up for the Los Angeles Dodgers — the decision to keep Henderson will likely have better long-term benefits. Skubal was likely going to be a rental, whereas Henderson is under several years of club control.
The young righty is coming into his own, and performances like the one he provided on Tuesday are indicative of a bright future.
Jackson Chourio’s big night
On the offensive side of the ball, it was Chourio’s night to shine.
Chourio went 3-for-4 at the plate with two RBIs. One of which was the result of a solo home run in the third inning, and the other came from a single in the bottom of the fourth that scored Cooper Pratt.
Chourio’s efforts earned him Player of the Game honors, and he is now slashing .280/.337/.468 with an .805 OPS in 79 games. He also has 14 home runs this season.
Final thoughts
The Brewers have built their identity and consistent success through prospect development, and the fruits of those efforts paid off in Tuesday’s win over Pittsburgh. Players like Chourio, 22, and Henderson are already providing great results before they have entered their primes, and it proves once again that Milwaukee’s system works.
