The Milwaukee Brewers have been rolling, but they have another tough opponent on the way.
The Milwaukee Brewers have taken on many challenging opponents recently, and they have been able to come out on top of all of them.
After sweeping the Chicago Cubs, however, the Brewers will be tasked with another formidable opponent when they host the Los Angeles Dodgers for a three-game series beginning on Friday at American Family Field.
Both teams have found their stride after clearing their respective obstacles, which makes this a heavy-weight National League battle over the weekend. Here is what you should know:
The Records
The month of May has been one of dominance for the Brewers, and they have a chance to keep it going against the Dodgers.
Throughout the month, the Brewers have faced, and swept, the New York Yankees, who were one of baseball’s best teams coming into Milwaukee when the Brewers hosted them May 8-10. Additionally, Milwaukee has claimed series wins over the San Diego Padres, Washington Nationals, and Minnesota Twins.
Perhaps the most significant and statement-making series for the Brewers during May was their sweep of the Cubs at Wrigley Field to reclaim first place in the National League Central Division and boast a 29-18 record ahead of hosting the Dodgers.
After some recent turbulence of their own that included a losing streak amid an offensive slump, the Dodgers seemed to have returned to form. They have won seven of their last eight games and hold a 31-19 record, good for first place in the National League West Division and third overall in baseball.
The Brewers’ record puts them just a half game behind Los Angeles for third-best in the sport, meaning they have an opportunity to claim the three-spot by at least winning the series. Both teams are hot, and it sets the stage for a worthy matchup.
First on the Mound
The Brewers will give right-hander Logan Henderson the starting nod to kick off the series against the Dodgers.
Friday will mark Henderson’s fifth start of the season, and he is coming off a solid outing against the Twins in which he pitched five innings and struck out seven batters while allowing six hits, one earned run and a walk to earn his first winning decision of the season.
Henderson will enter the matchup with a 1-1 record and 3.50 ERA through 18 innings of work, and he will face Los Angeles lefty Justin Wrobleski.
Wrobleski, 25, has been a force for the Dodgers. In eight games (seven starts), he has compiled a 6-1 record and a 2.49 ERA through 50 ⅔ innings pitched.
