The Milwaukee Brewers will look to get back in the win column against the Philadelphia Phillies.
The Milwaukee Brewers are set to host the Philadelphia Phillies for a three-game series beginning on Friday at 6:40 p.m. CST at American Family Field in Milwaukee.
Before the two teams face off, let’s review some things:
The Records
After losing two out of three games to the Athletics, the Brewers return home with a 41-25 record and still maintain a comfortable four-game lead over the St. Louis Cardinals for first place in the National League Central Division. Over its last 10 games, Milwaukee is 6-4.
Meanwhile, the Phillies come to Milwaukee with a 37-31 record, and are winners of seven of their last 10 games. Currently, they are second in the National League East Division behind the Atlanta Braves, who have the best record in baseball.
'The Miz’
Jacob Misiorowski, the Brewers’ 24-year-old right-handed ace who is among Major League Baseball's rapidly rising stars, is set to make his 14th start of the season on Friday.
Misiorowski has been a dominant force this season. Through his first 13 starts, Misiorowski is 7-2 and has a 1.50 ERA with a 0.81 WHIP. In 78 total innings of work, Misiorowski is leading MLB with 116 strikeouts. His WHIP is also first in baseball, and his opponent batting average (.151) is also No. 1.
According to his Baseball Savant profile, Misiorowski is in the 100th percentile in three categories: pitching run value, fastball run value and extension. In six categories, he ranks in the 97th percentile or higher: xERA, xBA, fastball velocity, whiff percentage, strikeout percentage and barrel percentage.
Misiorowski’s last start saw him strike out eight batters over seven innings against the Colorado Rockies. Against the Phillies, who rank 28th out of 30 teams with a .228 batting average, Misiorowski could produce another dominant outing.
The Offense
Conversely, the probable pitcher for the Phillies is right-hander Andrew Painter, who has struggled this season.
Over 12 games (11 starts) the 23-year-old rookie is 1-7 with a 6.21 ERA. In 58 innings, Painter has allowed 72 hits and 40 earned runs, 11 of which were home runs.
After consecutive losses, The Brewers’ offense, which ranks fifth in MLB with a .254 batting average, may jump on Painter immediately. The Brewers are also fifth in RBIs (333) and ninth in hits (570).
Once Milwaukee’s runners are on the base paths, they remain aggressive. Heading into Friday’s slate of games, the Brewers are third in stolen bases with 68. Given their top-10 status in multiple offensive categories, the Brewers may very well make life hard for Painter and the Phillies’ defense.
